Only three days after the close of one of the most historic elections in US history and the selection of Barack Obama as President, will.i.am has created a followup to his smash hit viral video Yes We Can. The new song, called It’s a New Day, made its debut on iTunes last night (you can download it here), and will be shown on this afternoon’s episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show.
Yes We Can features a collection of celebrities and musicians embellishing and singling alongside one of Barack Obama’s most memorable speeches, and as been viewed as many as 50 million times across countless online video sites. The new song is more traditional, celebrating Obama’s victory with references to past heroes of the United States and the civil rights movement. We’ll post the video as soon as it is available.
Update: Here’s the clip of will.i.am’s performance of It’s A New Day on Oprah this afternoon:
Here is the video for Yes We Can:

I look forward to seeing TechCrunch post the Rappin’ Ronnie song from the Simpsons as a news story tomorrow.
“The most terrifying words in the English langauge are: I’m from the government and I’m here to help.”
Isn’t the police, fire, 911, etc… “the government”???? Next time be more specific on your comments if you don’t what them to be meaningless.
@AcaKaliman [??]
The services you mention have nothing to do with the federal government. It is obvious that you are not in the US.
Peace
It is funny how Obama means just as much to the international community as he does to Americans…it is also funny how when you try to start a business you have to try to be politically neutral but after hearing some republican idiot tell me that the US healthcare is better than Canada’s I am done being neutral.
I have a question for republicans who are also the hardcore bible thumpers…isn’t universal healthcare a more christian ideology than healthcare just for the rich?
Jesus didn’t say to the poor blind guy do you have coverage, but if he was republican he would of had too…
Gebadia Smith? Yes, the retarded Canadian again. The one who never learns…. Guy, you do not make sense and your foreign opinions suck!
Please, GET LOST!!!
Agree. This guy IS a real idiot who has no clue.
Gebadia? what kind of a name is that? Sounds like a coffee maker, and yes, he is kind of a goofy idiot –IGNORE THIS FOOL!!!
@Gebadia – Really? The Canadian health care system is that good? Maybe that is why Canadian doctors are desperate to come and practice in the US –There are hundreds in the Midwest. Also, thousands of Canadian patients come to New York, Detroit and Seattle because it they wait for medical treatment back home, they would surely die.
Yeah! the Canadian system is much better [not] It is actually closer in quality to the Cuban system…
US healthcare sucks. Largely because it doesn’t exist. I’ve worked in ED in Chicago and it’s like hell. People come in with bullet wounds and all we’re allowed to do is stop them from dying on the premises. Stitch ‘em up, turf ‘em out. Love it. That’s the American dream.
Simpsons? Ha ha, you kids today.

FYI, you can link straight to a start time in YouTube now…here’s the video with it starting at 3:21:

Yes we can profit from Obama’s celebrity status. Yes we can.
really….
when bush got up off his ass… and the us gov finally showed up at new orleans, after katrina… quite a few people were happy to see them. although, they still pretty much f*ed most things up!!
like the trailers, that were emitting toxic fumes!! as well as the trailers that went to complete waste!
@sam
Please get your facts straight: it is true that the federal government was very slow to respond to the needs of those affected by the hurricane.
However, the initial blame rests squarely on the shoulders of Louisiana Governor Kathleen Blanco [an incompetent white woman] and New Orleans Mayor, still in office, Ray Nagin [an incompetent black man] —
*BOTH OF THEM REFUSED* the initial massive federal government help, an irrational action which they shamelessly used later for political gain, while blaming everything on the president.
Another myth, fueled by these two fools is that most of the hurricane victims were black, when in reality, white folks suffered the most while losing their houses and personal belongings. These lies were used, again, by Blanco and Nagin for personal political gain. Another example of slimy politicians shameful actions…
Seriously, there are much better role models out there than “will.i.am”. Plus, how is this tech worty???
’cause it’s about being viral…
Haha. I couldn’t agree more with you!
And nothing screams “viral” more than being announced by a popular website.
@LG — Tech “worty”??
No one invited you to come here. You can leave now…
YEAH, YOUR TYPO ISN’T WELCOME HERE!!
Watch it here for free on YouTube:

Yes the CNN hologram is in the video but it’s will.i.am in it
He was in the CNN hologram during the election coverage. For some reason.
Keep milkin it buddy. We can’t get enough of that corny ass music.
How is this even remotely related to tech?
Why not just start politicscrunch.com if you want to do political news. That is now why I have techcrunch in my RSS reader
Seriously, I’m so sick of the bias. I come on this site to learn about new technologies and start-ups. I couldn’t care any less about a corny hip-hop artist and his political agenda.
Is it biased to support the president? Last year it was unamerican not to. Anyway, Will is a great dancer.
Loren’s Mom, you must of missed the other political posts.
@Nation & @LG
No one invited you to come here. You can leave now…
This site documents the development of web 2.0. This is web 2.0, jerks.
(sounds like a black eyed peas song)
Goodness, people. It’s alright to write about something a little different every once in a while. If you don’t want to read it, don’t. Just skip over it.
What if “once in a while” turns out to be “most of the time?”
Then “stop reading” the blog?
when I did a search in my Google Reader of my TechCrunch feed for “obama” it came up with 108 posts.
That is more then 1 every 3 days … now some of those were tech related … it could even be most of them, yet it’s not a “every once in a while” & I don’t want it to continue now that the election is over.
If Obama, or any politician, proposes tech related bills and such, cover it … if someone comes out with another political related song … no.
I like It’s A New Day {seesmic_video:{”url_thumbnail”:{”value”:”http://t.seesmic.com/thumbnail/l9Pyevke4p_th1.jpg”}”title”:{”value”:”I like It’s A New Day ”}”videoUri”:{”value”:”http://www.seesmic.com/video/QyPAopFa14″}}}
Two words (or three?) Kareem Abdul-Jabbar!!!
Please top posting this liberal bullshit on TechCrunch. This is not the Huffington Post. Every time I read another celebratory Obama post it makes me think more about how liberal the editors of TC are.
all i can say is wow. really nice.
all i can say is wow. always really nice comments…
I’m sorry but that song is utter tripe. Musically it is utter crap. No catchy melody, no hooks, nothing to dance to.
It may be a new day for politics, but this song is just commercial that has very little influence today. If Obama succeeds with the change he promised awesome, but he doesn’t even get any power for a good month.
@Alana – liberal is *not* a dirty word outside the US. If someone is or isn’t is personal and what they write will always reflect their views and does not make them good or bad.
@cynic – I just want to read about start-ups and technology on TC. Not about a happy Obama song. I don’t think liberals are bad, I just don’t feel the same way, and I expect to not have to read either sentiment – liberal or conservative – on a site like TC. Thanks for your point.
Then do not come here. Get lost.
Uh oh, Obammy is already in trouble. TechCrunch better install a teleprompter on his shoes because this guy is a one-dimensional speaker. They kept him away from Town Hall’s and press conferences as much as they could. He might end up making Dubya look like the Great Orator.

Milk the fat cow baby
Sigh. Viral videos are so 2007.. The Internet is just one big trend, much like the emo following..
Dwayne.

Wow when did this become techology related. This sucks monkey balls, I need those 3 minutes of my life back.
I suppose if it’s on YouTube, it’s technology.
TC is fine the way it is.
BTW, how often do you suck monkey balls?
I hear eating them is a delicacy in southeast Asia…
Mike,
I really think you should start a political site called “policrunch.” That or buy DailyKos.
Is this related to tech.

Music marketing at it’s finest.
What’s this crap?
I was totally impressed with the CNN hologram star wars projection. We need that every night!
Hey guys, where were you on election night? Post your historical photo on this site commemorating hopes win over fear. http://www.hopewon.com
Can we fix it?

It’s obvious isn’t it? Jason Kincaid is a will.i.am fan
