I honestly cannot wait for facebook to get into the music game. I see it as an exciting development for the small music scene. What if Facebook, developed apart from their commercial offerings some avenue for indie music makers to sell their wares.

Sorry I am sold on the benefits of a abother major player in the music scene.

I hope Facebook does NOT go into music. There is no need for that. It's growing and doing fine as it is. And there is clearly no money in it. It'd just be a distraction for them.

Facebook: be more like MySpace. They'll never properly monetize with Zuckerberg at the helm. It seems like everything I hear is about a new way MySpace is making money, and how Facebook... isn't.

You also get Nomadesk Information from Facebook or any other social networking sites such as-my space, twitter, linkedin, yahoo groups, msngroups, google groups, etc.

Chris DeWolfe is a great CEO. Every startup needs a mind like DeWolfe's to handle the real world aspects of handling a business, like having a business plan.

DeWolfe is correct about Facebook.

MySpace has positioned themselves within the music industry from the start. Even before MySpace Music, artists and lables were leveraging the site to market their products and develop their fan base. In addition, the users of MySpace have always been comfortable with this type of marketing and have and will continue to respond positively to it.

On the flip side, Facebook has never been about music or commercial marketing. What Facebook has been about is photo sharing within the context of mapping and maintaining one's online social network.

Not only do I think any music venture will fail within Facebook, I don't think any type of large scale commercial venture will succeed. At the end of the day, I don't think Facebook will be able to monetize its user base and I think it will fail.

What Facebook has been about is photo sharing within the context of mapping and maintaining one’s online social network.

Not only do I think any music venture will fail within Facebook, I don’t think any type of large scale commercial venture will succeed. At the end of the day, I don’t think Facebook will be able to monetize its user base and I think it will fail.

I wonder when the movie industry will finally start to follow suit. Bronfman took a big leap with going digital and its paying off, Warner is a great label amongst music lovers. The movie industry should take note, sites like Jadsters.com, and other movie sites are great but get pushed out unless they bombard the customer with 10 advertisements a minute or they can't operate.

Music Industry = Bufoons ...Just look at the credentials for any of the sxsw conferences, and if you read between the lines and LOOK u will see that over 60% of the speakers are lawyers.

The industry continues to try new ways to sell the same old thing...even if it works (which it will not), this only serves to further cannibalize their existing revenue steams (ie CD's).

I wrote a business plan (9thtrack.com) that allows the labels, A&R and their musicians to recognize BRAND NEW revenue streams from their music. Impresarios and power brokers in this space should reach out to me. I will show you how to monetize in a Web 2.0 world.
