Job search engine Simply Hired is expanding its operations into Canada, UK, Australia and India. The venture-backed startup was once an acquisition target for Google, and was recently called outfor showing enormous jumps in traffic numbers that may have had something to do with shady tactics.
Simply Hired has always made it clear its ambition is to grow into the largest online database of jobs on the planet. To get there, Simply Hired aggregates and indexes data on millions of job listings worldwide from a variety of sources, including large and small job boards, newspaper and classified listings, and directly from company websites. Job seekers simply type in a keyword and location, and Simply Hired returns relevant job postings from all of these sources so users avoid conducting multiple searches on various sites.
Simply Hired currently powers the international job channel for MySpace UK, and supplements LinkedIn’s job board with millions of job listings from Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, India, France, Germany and Spain. Depending on where you look, the company says their database contains in between four and seven million jobs, and claims that 1.5 million will be added thanks to the international expansion.
Yet most local job search engines and recruitment portals have long fought their battles country by country, and market shares don’t move all that much. It will be hard for Simply Hired to get its foot in the door, let alone challenge the leaders.
Simply Hired has raised a total of $17.7 million in three rounds of investment, part of it from well-known angel investors like Guy Kawasaki, Ron Conway and Dave McClure. Its last funding round, which was provided by Fox and Foundation Capital, amounted to $13.5 million two years and a half ago.
Competitors include Indeed, HotJobs, Monster and Vast to some degree.

i never used their service careerbuilder was always where i turned to first.
As for me, I’m not a loyal user of any job boards… I’ll check out anything that shows up first on Google. Since SimplyHired is gaining a strong foothold in the market using a relatively easy-to-develop mashup… perhaps other job portals will adopt the same practise. One positive aspect of that is… convenience to jobseekers. But on the other hand – stiff competition for job portals
You really shouldn’t thread-jack the first comment of every post. Perhaps you require a reminder every time you do it?
They made some other news as well;

uh, that’s just a press release.
They own simplyfired.com domain as well :)
Here in Australia, definitely going to have a hard time getting anywhere against Seek (www.seek.com.au or http://www.seek.com). Biggest job site in Australia and publicly listed.
Many have tried, no one seems to gain anything against them.
thanks Duncan
nice and cool posts from http://getfreef...es.blogspot.com
do we have to pay to reply to an ad?
The globalization of talent pools helps SimplyHired, especially when competing against Monster, which charges for each local listing. SimplyHired’s understanding of the recruiting needs of employers benefits all stakeholders.
Anyone heard of JobsTAXI? http://www.jobstaxi.com . I stumbled on it a few days back.
Great interface, quite speedy and really cool web 2.0 jobs. Not too sure whether its a free listing though
The Australian market is currently served by players like Recruit.net, Careerjet, Jseekers and myspider . This in addition to the 200 or so job boards serving a country of 20 million.
Crowded? Perhaps yes, but ultimately job seekers will be the main benefactors, and the thriving Australian blogging community will certainly welcome Simplyhired’s jobomatic service.
History, however, is not kind to American companies who enters the Australian market. Monster and Hotjobs failed to make any dent in the late 1990s/early 2000s, and ultimately quit the market. Only, time will tell if Simplyhired will be any different.
I can think of 6 sites like this that have launched in the UK in the last 6 months. All of them seem based on indeed.com -everyone seems to have the same idea!
For sure another interesting tool! The main problem remain that even with all these nice overseas job boards the bureaucracy of actually getting a job overseas is huge…
Linkedin was included into the About.com Top 10 employment site list…linkedin is still the only social network on the list though…..the newest 3 on the list are-
http://www.linkedin.com (professional networking)
http://www.indeed.com (aggregated listings)
http://www.realmatch.com (matches you to the perfect job)
Good luck to those searching for jobs!
I always use Career Builder…that’s the best …
The major job boards here in Australia are already awash with duplicated and cross posted jobs, which creates ‘noise’ and frustrates the job seeker, because it means they have to search through 5-10 times more jobs than actually exist. This is why so many job seekers don’t waste their time with the big job boards, unless they are desperately seeking a new job (pun intended for you Aussies).
It seems to me that Simply Hired just exacerbates this problem, by bringing together all the duplicated and cross posted ads from everywhere!
