Truphone Anywhere, the application now released for the blackberry, is one of the features I use most often on my nokia E65. As most owners of smartphones have huge minute bundles anyway, the bundle is almost the same as the WiFi: The leg into the IP cloud is essentially free! (Voice quality and coolness factor on WiFi is much higher, though)

90% of my phone bill used to be international calls, which truphone reduced by at least 90%, saving me hundreds of pounds monthly. Sure, I could have used Skype or other methods - but truth is: I did not want to change my normal behaviour of simply-dialing-from-the-address-book.

A more holistic analysis can be found on our blog at www.straubventures.com (as we are not only fans, but also supporters of the business).

Hey Adolf, the iphone and bberry has definitely surpassed being used by only higher income folks. Add the cool factor into the iphones and now I have seen kids as young as junior high schoolers using them.

With that being said, usually only the data plan (about $30 to $40 on top of voice plans) is unlimited. The number of minutes you get for voice is based on the plan that you pick. This is what makes this app so great. You can utilize your unlimited data plan to make calls while saving on your limited voice minutes.

If i'm in an area with dependable enough wifi to make a call with my iphone or BBerry, isn't it likley that in most cases I'd have a PC or landline on which i could make the VOIP call as well?

And also, aren't the iphone and BBerry primarily used by higher income people with all-you-can-eat plans? does this have appeal only for international calls?

Not trying to dis this product, but i think I must be missing its appeal.
