Elevator Pitch Friday: RouteYou makes it easy to find the perfect driving, hiking, or biking route

RouteYou

It’s Elevator Pitch Friday, which means another startup has created a video that’s worth showing you. This week’s presentation comes from RouteYou, a startup that wants to make it easier for you to find outdoor routes that are optimized for your needs.

RouteYou wants to make it easy for you to find the best route from one place to another, whether in a car, on foot, or riding a bike. They do this by taking raw geo-spatial data and structuring it, turning mapping information into routes with turn-by-turn directions that people can use. They also offer a route planner that allows for collaborative route planning.

  • How is this different from “public transport” via google maps? rhetorical question…..

    http://maps.goo...e=UTF8&z=13

    • Umm… good question. RouteYou is a hybrid web application – another new mashup. There’s a bit of a social network element to it. Not so popular in the US at the moment – the users are mainly in the Europe.

      • I have yet to sign up at RouteYou, but here’s a brief explanation on the difference between RouteYou & Google Maps – you can classify RouteYou as a social network, but unlike Facebook/MySapce, RouteYou is an avenue for bikers/travelers (in fact, anyone who needs a cycling route).
        - whereas Google Maps is (possible) the building block for the Route You app. Does that answer your Q?

      • I can’t handle hot smart girls talking tech. It is too much for my weak heart. I have heard rumors they exist but never met one in my life. The hot smart tech girl is like the illusive red head. The dream that leaves you covered is sweat, glad you did not meet because you would of made a fool of yourself saying something like “I play basketball.” The male desire to copulate makes you unable to say anything of meaning. Like a fool you try to sound all smart and end up sounding like a jackass….

You end the night by blurting out “will you marry me” and for a moment when she gives you that dumb founded freaked out look you think she will say yes, that is until she starts laughing, calling you sweet.

Or does that just happen to me??

  • for cycling routes, it’d be nice to have a service which understands how to use bike paths, back streets and cut-throughs, many of which are inaccessible in a vehicle and so not offered as routes – we get there more directly in some places and are glad to cycle bonus miles to avoid driver aggro points in others, having fun, saving plenty $&C – please look out for us, as we look out for you ;)

  • useless. it doesn’t actually do routing, as far as i can tell. oh, well.

google maps already does walking for some cities, too.

  • Good service but there is certainly room for improvement. For example, my walking route is 90% on the highway. In any case, I’d be interested in looking into their technology for UMapper

  • I’m glad to see so many people with very similar interests! Good luck to you RouteYou.

My app, Mountain Blasting, http://mountainblasting.com is geared towards a more specific niche..specifically automotive gearheads and bikers. We aim to provide a very easy experience to discover and share the gorgeous country and mountain roads out there. I welcome everyone check it out and get your feedback!

    Thanks

  • ya… not a bad way of social servicing.it can work for tourist to find out their route.they must give easiest way to get link.

  • I’m skeptical.

  • Check out Bikemap: http://www.bikemap.net. Simpler, bigger, older, better.

  • Here is a mashup My way: driving directions and local search
    http://myway.linkstore.ru/

  • Route You -> (sounds like) Root You -> (slang) Have sex with

  • Looks OK. A little cleaner that MapMyRide.com, but also with fewer options.

And MapMyRide has an iPhone app (although it’s still really buggy).

  • Try SundayMorningRides.com for GPS motorcycle rides maps – currently 1062 maps and counting…

It’s 100% free and unlike most of the previous sites there is no login required

You can also view the maps in your iPhone (or Andriod)

  • Perusing the list…

Mountainblasting.com seems a bit amateurish and there isn’t really any content (sorry).

Bikemap.net looks very nice, but is also lacking content.

Sundaymorningrides.com, seems to have lots of content and international coverage (nice).

    MapMyRide.com still way buggy…steer clear.

    I’m a big fan of Trails.com.
