For those who think all publicity is good publicity and this video was "dope" and smart marketing, the proof is in the numbers for the month following launch.

According to compete.com, in November 2008 the average stay for Twine's users DROPPED ---47.4% from October’s 5:56 minutes to 3:08 minutes and the average number of pages also FELL ---29.5% from 9 to 7 pages.

Notably, during its beta peak in August, the average stay was 15 to 16 minutes and the average number of viewed pages was 12 in May, which are gold mine metrics for prospective advertisers.

If this video was so smart it would have achieved three things:

(1.) Users would know what Twine actually does and how to use it.

(2.) Twine's community would have been respected and represented as intelligent and articulate professionals who share quality content instead of as ghetto wannabes who collect s*** that Twine organizes.

(3.) User engagement and time on site would have INCREASED not fallen as it has.

Even as a prank it was appallingly unprofessional for Candice Nobles to even think of Twine and its smart and educated community in this way.

This video is a classic case study on how NOT to launch and position your brand.

Twine marketing is stupid and illiterate. Here's an example direct from one of their own emails:

* You can also email items (that are public), even if those who are not a
member

That's not funny. That's just sloppy and reflects lack of professionalism.

Shit is the right word to associate with them based on this.

This is a great video. Hilarious, and very well done.

It's a nice parody of the commercials that exploit hiphop to seem "cool".

Hey Schonfeld, you say these guys have been in beta A YEAR?!

Disappointed User says UI's shit and there's no user guides. WTF has marketing been doing the whole year --- except produce this "leaked shit" video for their launch?

Man, I don't know this Candice from HOLLA!

There's no QDOS, cool or cred to marketing if there's no user guide even after a year of beta........That's the way it rolls.

Seems all she produces is shit.

Maybe the hype and marketing numbers about how signings being up's all shit too.

Don't swallow any of that shit!

One year of beta and they still haven't gotten their shit good!

SHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET!

What I want to know is what’s the marketing team wasting their time creating and tracking !”BUZZ”! on a prank video like this (I see they're commenting above) when there’s no user guides and the UI’s snail slow?

I’ve been playing with the site for a few days and still can’t figure out how I’m supposed to post links etc. That’s rubbish marketing not “edgy”.

I’m sticking with delicious and magnolia.

Only one s-word matters, when you strip out the fake !"buzz"!. SERVICE.

I have to say that as a start it's not good. Disappointing because I'd heard good things about the company before on tech sites but didn't sign-up. I'm a delicious and magnolia guy.

Then I did (give it a chance, I thought).

After playing around for a few days, what I want to know is, "What's their marketing team doing wasting time making these kind of prank videos and trying to generate !"BUZZ"! like this when there are no simple user guides?"

What kind of company launches and cares about a video like this more than making the navigation straightforward? It's low-end marketing, that's what I think.

I took what they called their TOUR. I still can't figure out how to post links etc.

The UI has quite a way to go to be user-friendly and it loads SLOOOOOOOOOW.

The video's a waste of time. I couldn't care less about "ghetto" or Valley humour. As a user, what I want is a service where marketing does what it's supposed to. Make my life and how I use the site easier (BIG CLEAR INSTRUCTIONS + SIMPLE UI), so I'm sticking with delicious and magnolia for now.

Yes, I want to "organize my links" but I can't if I can't even use the site!

They need to get their marketing act together, that's what I think.

I don't care about s-words except one. SERVICE or say goodbye to users like me.

Internal video that gets leaked, YEAH right. 2pac's still lives too.

What kinda marketing idiots call their own users' content 'shit', even as practical joke? That's just rude shit.

The shots we hear at the end is the company shootin' itself in the butt and the foot's what! The word's just gonna stick to the company now like......yeah, shit!

It ain't about humor trolls or none of that jack. It's dumb, dumb, dumb and shit.

The only substance about Twine is clearly............shit.

I signed up for their beta back in June, checked out public version this month, ok so they made it look a bit prettier (superficial shit).

It still majorly sucks so it's no big surprise the staff thinks it's shit themselves. The service is shit, that's no joke.

Now that's the shit I'm talking about! I love the fact that twine was smart enough to take a chance at creating a different video to present their service. I mean they explained it exactly as I would explain it to a friend, that's what makes it work!

And Tupac playing in the the background, just made that Shit more dope!

If anyone had a problem with this "shit" they're the wrong people for Twine, Nova. Don't sweat it. I've been using it for months now and like how it has developed. Great tool.

[...] Twine: “We Organize That Shit.” “You use Twine to collect, find some shit, and share that shit with people you know. Twine ties it all together by topic, so you can have that shit in one place and it is easy for you to find it. You know what I’m sayin’?” [...]

Wow some of you guys sound worse than high school girls creating drama... Got nothing better to do than complain about sh*t.
Take a joke, and im sure that if twine or whoever meant to really submit this video to gain public opinion, than they would have thought about it and realized some shitty people with no sense of humor would create shit about this.

I am betting heavily that the majority of negative comments here are from either of two categories; A) IT professionals, and B) IT professionals with competing products.

I am not (by any stretch of the imagination) an IT professional. From normal person's perspective, this is just silly and funny, in a socially/culturally relevant way. It is HUMOR, that gets attention to a site, and that is actually just a fine thing. I thought it was funny, and besides Twine IS an very interesting site.

For the IT professionals with or without competing products (and without a sense of humor) I just have ask; Does your lack of humor, or social dexterity have a significant bearing on why most of you do not have successful visibility like Twine does right now? The fact that anyone in IT would take the time to post negative comments about a silly joke video here answers these questions pretty much.

I had no problem with it but I just want to clear it up, that was not a rap video, the Palin thing is. This is a 2Pac song played in the background with a VO.
