iPhone addicts love their iPhones, but nothing is perfect. Customer feedback for Apple just went public on Please Fix the iPhone. The site let’s iPhone owners, or anyone else, list and vote on the features that most need fixing on the iPhone. The features that get the most votes rise up the ranks.
Right now the top requests are:
1. Copy and paste.
2. Landscape view for emails.
3. Ability to hide unwanted icons.
4. Use the iPhone as a 3G modem for the MacBook
5. Make Flash work.
Looks like Steve Jobs has a new to-do list. What would you add? Don’t tell us, go vote on the site.

Emperor Steve already knows what features to add and the Apple Empire will release them as soon as they are ready. Never underestimate the power of the Dork Side!
you mean Messiah
All things considered it’s still the greatest thing since sliced bread.
My iPhone (and the 3G when I switched to it after it was released) lags so badly its beyond usable at times. I’ll open any program — mail, safarai, youtube, sms — and it’ll take about 10 seconds of it freezing while opening the program before it finally pops up. I’ve been an iPhone user from the start but now I’m selling it. Always found it funny that Apple made fun of Windows, but at least Windows isnt so ridiculously slow if you know how to operate it.
You do realize that what you’re experiencing is most likely just a problem with your specific phone right?
Mine does the same thing. Just switched over to the Edge network where the service is more consistent, and one day I’ll schlep down to the Apple Store and get a new one.

Hey Mos,
I actually had three different iPhones since it first came out and they all seem to have this problem. I had two regular iPhones because my first one’s touch-screen stopped working and had it replaced. I noticed that the lag issue persisted on the new one I got after about 1 month of using it. Then when I upgraded to the 3G it still had that issue. It worked great for the first month but after that it went downhill. Maybe I just use it so much that those kinds of things really get to me (like if I’m browsing the Net, sometimes Safari minimizes and it goes to the home screen, killing the browser).
I used to love it but I’m just disappointed with it now. I’ll wait for a few years down the line to see if it gets any better.
Cheers
Mos, do you have a 3G? Almost everyone I know (myself included) experiences the unbearable lag. I’ve literally counted up to 8 seconds on mine for SMS to come up. I despise my iphone, I’m so mad at myself for switching to ATT just for this phone, now I want to get rid of it and go back to Verizon but it will cost me another few hundred dollars. Fantastic.
Use as a modem for ANY computer, not just the Macbook. Not everyone who has an iPhone is a Mac user.
Points 1 and 2 are must have. As we used more and more the iPhone for typing messages, the cut and paste is crucial. I also wish for moving the . character on the letter keypad.
Did you know that you can space twice and it will insert a period
Cool, didn’t know that thanks
A couple of my favorites:
* Background apps. I don’t care how it’s done to conserve memory/battery life, but the current situation appalling. You can’t write an email while Pandora is playing in the background, for example; an incoming phone call may well require you to restart the app you were using; etc.
* Asynchronous notifications for apps like Twitter and IM clients. This was promised for September, but the feature is still MIA.

I couldn’t have said it better myself.
Definitely the 5 listed (copy & paste!) and e-mail search would be great too.
Video and ability to zoom when taking photos.
it is one of the greatest piece of gadget I I’ve ever used…the thing I wish it had is more battery backup
How about making it smaller and something that is TRULY MOBILE. Just because they were able to fit some stuff into a slim but very wide body, doesn’t make it that special. add a keyboard and bluetooth and an OS that isn’t so friggin proprietary
You want to make it smaller AND add a keyboard? OK, got ya.
*rolls eyes*
If the iphones body wasn’t wide the screen would be tiny…and if it is ‘not that special’ why aren’t other manufacturers making phones that are so slim but functional? I mean, HTC has some nice phones but they were still using resistive touchscreens until the G1. And there are phones like the instinct but they don’t even come close in terms of usability.
it has bluetooth
How about making mobile Safari crash less! I experience a crash every single day on different sites. The site will load and then poof back to the home screen cause Safari didn’t like something.
I’d love to have a way of recording video with the built in camera. My crappy verizon phone I had before the iPhone had that feature.
Also, bring MMS to the iPhone. It’s a horrible user experience trying to log into a website when someone sends me a photo.
I agree with your first remark. Safari needs to be fixed **NOW**! The crashing must stop, Mr. Jobs.
Agreed. MMS should be on this list.
Agreed. Can’t believe no video and MMS! Big drawback!
Better exchange support, specifically I feel like it is missing a lot of the polish found around calendar syncing that you find in WIndows Mobile 6.
Turn by turn directions and better GPS apps. I would like to see an app that I can load topographical trail maps onto for off road exploration.
I am not a hater but things like cut and paste and the ability to run multiple applications have been on Windows Mobile for a long time. I admire the design and some other features of I-Phone but it seem to missing some basic stuff. How about a keyboard?
I’ve had many different phones, never owned an iphone but I have an iPod touch, and I find typing on it to be fairly easy and quick. I have owned an HTC Mogul and a Treo 650, both having physical keyboards.
The moguls keyboard was a slider, and with the lag that windows mobile had sliding out the keyboard was a chore.
The palms thumboard was awesome and I really loved it, but it had the outdated palm os on it. There are WM treo’s but they are also limited because many windows mobile apps aren’t designed for a square screen. Also I would rather have the extra screen real estate.
Overall, I found the slight typing speed advantage of a physical keyboard to be too small of a difference to account for a much larger device, which is probably why Apple’s designers left off a physical keyboard, and probably will never add one.
2 others please: MMS and forwarding of texts. 5 actually, I just thought of 3 more: higher res camera, flash for said camera and video. kthxbye
I know most people’s probably gonna disagree but it needs a better typing solution! Most iPhone users I’ve met have complained about it!
I hate syncing my iPhone through a USB cable, should be wireless: http://pleasefixtheiphone.com/problems/success/307
Ummm, Stereo Bluetooth?!?! Hello?!?!? Everyone seems to be forgetting this one. Does no one realize how much RIDICULOUSLY EASIER it would be to not have to unwind and wind headphone earbuds every time I’m standing in a line to watch a podcast or listen to some music?
Stereo bluetooth? Didn’t you know Steve doesn’t approve of bluetooth? Tssk tssk.
We have developed a solution for copy/paste, which can be seen here:

Awesome! Finally I can shout my wishes out loud!
Jobs’ Grand Control Centre Mac:
* ‘Wishes’ drag-to ‘Trashcan’
It would be great if there was a To Do application on the iPhone that synced with Outlook or Mail.app for Steve Jobs to track all these suggestions.
Seriously, anyone know of a To Do application that syncs with Mail.app?
Download podcasts from the phone.
The iPhone is an Internet device, yet you can’t download a podcast without tethering it to a machine running iTunes. That functionality would steal a little business from XM/Sirius.
Thanks for the post Erick.
There is also an iPhone-optimized version for quickly adding new wishes on the go.

Access to the contacts and other data on the SIM card (every phone in the world can do it, why not the iPhone??)
Speed the thing up, maybe the apps are not quitting or something but mine runs so S L O W L Y (horrible lags typing or doing anything).
PUSH EMAIL fully functional please!!
’select all’ on email messages so you can delete all of them with one tick.
A built in app version of Intelliscreen - after you have it you cannot imagine the iPhone without it.
The ability to change alert sounds.
Did you know that you can drag from left to right across an e-mail in the e-mail list screen to delete it without having to open it? Very handy function - makes deleting much easier. Same works for other applications with lists.
This is a good idea but I doubt that it will work simply due to the fact that the guys at Apple are so smart and are so in tune with the users that they do not need to be told what to do.
The funny thing is that most of the items that people are asking for already exist when you jailbreak your phone. Background applications, video camera, camera with digital zoom, copy and paste (limited but exists), to-do applications, downloading podcasts, etc…
So you see people, it is not a limitation of the device - I happen to think that it is an amazing computing platform (much like the Nokia N810 is) - but a limitation of what Apple wants to control. Everyone knows why Podcaster was not allowed to be released to all iPhones - it was too close in functionality to their own applications that either exist now or going to exist.
This is why the Microsoft model was better (as related to Windows Mobile). Write applications that provide the basic functionality and allow other developers to write applications that provided more functionality and have access to the entire device. I mean simple apps such as making the device vibrate when you press a key on the keyboard (which provides better feedback) can not be released on the App store.
Just my two cents…
WIDE E-Mails. It’s the most annoying thing in the world using the little narrow keyboard. You’d think they would have fixed this issue with the original!
Sounds like maybe Apple should spend less money on advertising and more money on fixing their iPhone? Lol irony?
Need to save money? Need to make money? Mint.com is the solution for you. Visit http://www.mint.com.
switch to java
I doubt the iPhone will ever be a tethered modem. For me, Flash support is at the top of the list. Cut & paste is a close second.
flash is so 2002.
Please help it changed colors e transformer itself in an art piece.

Absolutely hilarious. Every feature listed (plus every additional feature requested in comments here) is already included in Windows Mobile. Yet the fanbois keep claiming the iHype is “the greatest thing since sliced bread”.
You can complain and hope the dictator lets you have what you want.. or you could just go buy a real phone that already gives you these features AND gives you real control over your device/content.
and Mr. Megalomaniac please add REAL keyboard, adding 3mm to the thickness of the phone will not kill sales…
Please help, my Iphone changed colors and transformer itself into an art piece.

You can triangulate my position using satellites, cell phone towers and/or wifi hotspots, but you can’t/won’t sync Notes and To-Dos?? Please, for the love of all that is pearly and white, sync Notes and To-Dos with Mail.app!
1. Longer battery life.
2. Not make any speaker within a 1 mile radius go nuts every 30 seconds (I’m not sure why this happens more so with the iPhone than other smartphones).
3. Please make Fieldrunners Tower Defense not work anymore so that I can be productive at work again.
>> “4. Use the iPhone as a 3G modem for the MacBook”
YES YES YES.
This is CRUCIAL and it needs to happen NOW.
What is your problem, AT&T? Is this about MONEY? Is that your problem? Oh you pathetic beggars! You want MORE money from us, don’t you? You want another handout! $70/mo just isn’t enough. YOU WANT MORE!
$$$
Attention please:
Anybody have $20/mo to give those pathetic beggars at AT&T, so we can have tethered internet? I don’t. I threw $70 at them on Wednesday.
$$$
Make it easier to move between 2 email accounts. I have a work account and a Gmail account setup. It takes 4 taps to move from one inbox to the other. Even Windows Mobile made it a one-click activity! http://pleasefixtheiphone.com/problems/view/604
I still say that no matter how many features the iPhone has, and how many of these “fixes” get made, it’s still plagued by the fact that you’re stuck with AT&T - and that means no competitive pricing.
I agree with the list but would most definitely add battery life, zoom ability, video capability, and hopefully break away from At@T (don’t know how possible that is).
The iphone is great, but needs to be tweaked. The major problem is that you can only get service from AT&T. But other than that, iphone is great.

1. Thought-activated MMS, copy-paste, everything.
2. 1 TB SSD
3. 3 12 Megapixel cameras - free Photoshop
4. Half size and full-size keyboard
5. Solid platinum and pay me to use it. It’s only fair in this economy.
6. Pair bluetooth with my cats. In stereo.
7. 2 months battery. No, make it 5 months.
I’m sure there’s more I want, so fix it.
Now!!!
All reasonable NEEDS, except No. 6. I doubt your cats are Mac-compatible anyway.
HA! “Free photoshop”? Yeah, they’re just gonna tack on a $700 program just for, y’know, FREE. When in fact probably 99% of Photoshop’s capabilities would never be utilized by the average iPhone user.
There are plenty of image editing apps in the iTunes store, and several of them for free. All of them able to do what the typical user of an iPhone would want to do with a photo.
Wowww, didn’t notice that he was joking? Take a look at that post once more.
Here is a better idea, just buy the Blackberry Storm:
Expandable memory
Removable battery
3.2mpx camera w/ video
bluetooth tether (but you have to pay for it)
Copy/Paste
Tacticle feedback touchscreen
landscape mode keyboard
Push email/multiple email accounts
Java based programing, no manufacturer approval required
what more do you need?
NO.
Make reminders for meetings not be completely useless. Nag functions are critical and completely missing. Tab calendar view for multiple calendars. Tabed mail view while your at it.
Cut and past sure whatever.
And if you guys can’t or won’t make the PIM functions usefull then open it up to people with a clue. Hell, you should do that anyway to make the phone a billion times more useful.
Tethering. come on say it with me TETHERING.
1,3,4 are available if you jailbreak.
GPS - Turn by turn navigation, this is a app/Apple thing, where’s the beef!
Forward. A. SMS. *sigh*
Future hardware release - SDHC slot
Copy and paste is a great problem I think, I like gphone better than iphone
Copy and Paste? How about letting me play music from my phone when I plug it into my work computer? How about syncing with more than one computer. How about letting me FULLY manage my phone instead of the dumb sync options. How about supporting XP64? How about getting wifi working with 2.1?
Copy and Paste… pshhh.
What I’d REALLY love to see is a search function in iPod. So if you view all songs, you can start typing the name and it will work as it does in iTunes. Sometimes I want to hear a song and I’m not sure if its on my iPhone and if it is, what Its called (sometimes you have songs with the artists name in front or the name of the tv show its from). I’d find this really handy.
If the SMS portion looks like and is probably designed to work like iChat, add the damn emoticons too! how hard is that to add???
As a non-iPhone user, it’s kinda shocking to hear that some of the most basic but useful requests have so far been ignored in software updates, but I do think Apple will rectify this shortly.
