The invites are out and the rumors can be laid to rest. Will it be the new “Brick” aluminum-cased MacBooks/Pro? Or just plain old plastic ones with Nvidia chipsets? Will they be under $1,000?
Be sure to tune in for CrunchGear’s live blog of the event on October 14th at 10AM PDT.
Update: Piper Jaffray’s Gene Munster weighs in on pricing for the new MacBook along with updates that are expected for the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air. Read the rest at CrunchGear

It’s good they are coming up with new laptops….But damn…that way I have to keep replacing my MBP every year….

Pricing should start from $799 on the new MacBooks
SWEEEEEEEEEEEEET!!!!!!
I’ve been waiting for an new Macbook Pro forever. I hope they have a beefed up graphics card. Who else is buying one?
Thank god – my MacBook Pro recently broke and I’ve been holding out for new ones (luckily I have a work laptop to use until then). I wonder when they’ll be available to order?
This sounds like great news. I would love to get a macbook because windows is very limiting, and you can only be so creative using xp.
“because windows is very limiting”
please elaborate…
haven’t you seen the new MS ads…I’m a PC and I wear headbands…
Interesting how Twitter broke this news 2 days ago. How does that happen?
The rumor of an October 14th event regarding notebooks actually broke September 10th, 2008 by John Gruber.
this best be a macbook. I’m done with pros at home
Was just checking the “leaked” photos on macrumors. Looks neato. Glad to hear the prices will drop a bit.
Yes, we know Gruber “broke” the news about it last month, but now it’s official.
The netbook market has too much growth and traction for Apple to ignore IMO. I outlined three reasons why and how Apple will have a new MacBook at $800 a week ago: http://www.jkon...asons-well.html Too bad that doesn’t get me an invite to the event.
I can’t wait for this. I need a new Macbook..

Apple needs to walk the tight rope between lower price for higher volume; and lower overall margins from products like iPod. Note that iPhone is subsidized by the wireless providers.
With the poor economy and high margin sales from iTunes and iPhone Apps, it’s the right time to grow Apple with a lower priced laptop that increases market share. Good move Jobs and company

Hm, just after we’ve bought a sack full of Apple notebooks. Oh well it looks like we’ll need more soon anyways and the ones we’ve got do a fine Jobs (ahem job).
Those are good news for all apple addicts, including me, of course .
Definitely a good idea for Apple to have a system down in the $799 range, it seems they could pull in quite a few more buyers that way. I’m looking forward to seeing the new system!

Any chance a tablet is included? I want touch…
If we see a beefed up a graphics card, RAM up to 8 GB and a the “brick” rumors come to fruition I will be browsing TC on a new laptop sooner rather then later.
Perhaps they will be announcing that Jobs is stepping down due to health reasons.
This would be great to hit UNDER the $799 price point, with a laptop the size of the macbook air!
Most likely I’m dreaming…
hoping a worthless upgrade … just got a new book PISSED
i hope a noteboook a bit thicker than macbook air.
I really hope the new mbp does not look like these screenshots
test
I think Mac should start considering feature rich VS pricing, keeping in mind asus’s competition
Does anyone know where we can watch this LIVE?
awesome, i can’t wait. i’ve been meaning to change to a mac, and now there’s a new design, thumbs up.
