appssavvy Raises $3.1 Million To Connect Social Media Developers, Advertisers
by Jason Kincaid on October 7, 2008

appssavvy, a company that aims to help pair developers on social media platforms with advertisers and brands, has closed a $3.1 million Series A funding round led by TRUE Ventures. Also joining the round is About.com founder Scott Kurnit.

appssavvy reports that it has worked with 100 developers on the Facebook platform who account for 500 applications, as well as developers working on OpenSocial, Bebo, and a number of other social networks. Because there are so many developers and applications available across these social networks, it can be hard for advertisers to find an appropriate match for their brands. appssavvy acts as a middleman between these developers and major corporations like Fox and Adidas, giving developers ad revenue and offering brands targeted advertising.

appssavvy has a number of competitors, including SocialMedia, Lookery, and Cubics.

  • This is great. The more the merrier… all of our social network app clients are looking for better ways of monetising at the moment.

    • These kind of investments crack me up. Billions invested on online video blown up. Billions in apps and social networking about to blow up.

  • Very cool, we are looking for good developers all the time. Now, there is one place to find them.

  • Do they really need $3.1 million for this? All those social networks lack any vlogging capabilities which is clearly the only future for effective social networking. And I would only bet my money on a social networking paradigm that meets real needs for social interaction.

  • hopefully they will focus on email the greatest app ever created. 15 years and counting.

No one cares about the 5000 facebook apps on facebook today. The top 1-3 apps in every category are gonna be the only ones that matter. Facebook is a fad and so are Apps. Apps on mobile face the same dilemma. There is only so much people want to see and do on the net and mobile and we dont need thousands of apps trying to help us do that.

    GodLocator.com- let there be light!

    • MrOrMrsLocator.com how about brainlocator.com - let the poor webdev locate his, because if you found a brain, you might post something usefull “Facebook, and apps even ones on phones are FADs”… are you really that dumb? You got some shit sites called locator this, if I want to locate something I will use google, the non cheasy locating site… oh that is probably a FAD as well right?

    • hay I went to your locator site really http://professionallocator.ning.com/

that has 78 locators (really ning groups) and your largest locating site realestate with drum roll please……….. 3 members, and all the rest have a sole sorry lonely member YOU… you must be bored being the only member on 78 locator services….. HAHAHA how many weeks have you been spamming comments and the most you could get to sign up is 2 (this assumes they are not your friends that signed up)….

piece of advice, spen less time reading about companies that make it and more time working on a viable idea/content…. then you may actually see member join?

      • sorry to rant but I hate you comment spammers, a waist of my limited reading time.

Lets do the math you registered 78 domains at $10 a domain (780) to host them on ning, that unless you are paying a monthly fee takes up the only ad space that people click on so they have no real profit potential.

You would be better off to register one domain with a good idea, create it, then use the other 770 on advertising the site through legit means (adsense ads, yahoo ads, and the likes)

rant over sorry to be the one to hit you with a reality check… (realitylocator.com, checklocator.com, realitychecklocator.com)

      • Are you kidding? Several of us have been bashing the uselessness and stupidity of Locator dude’s comments and spammy nature for quite some time. As you note, it is a waste of time.

He just doesn’t get and never will (i’m afraid). He’ll just respond calling you a hater and tell you your argument has no substance without refuting a single point. Then he’ll spam the link to his video of him showing you a physical scroll (i’m not kidding) with 1200+ domain names he’s registered. Truly unbelievable that he wants to take us back to 1997.

  • @Envy
    I think i struck a chord.
You have the type of passion I could use for my business. Come work for me if all else fails. Oh i forgot nothing i say makes any sense.

I appreciate you taking the time to share your self professed intellectual insights. Heres a little of more of mine. http://seesmic.com/videos/l5V4uSVcvF

Advice to you is dont take the comments on TC or tech too seriously. Seeing is believing. Next time share a link to your lifes work. The internet is all about sharing. http://picasaweb.google.com/Pl.....0993205698

    GeniusLocator.com-Got Smarts?

    • What did I tell you? LOL, but you gotta pic of the unfurled scroll at a web expo too. You should be psyched.

He simply can’t refute any argument made against his *idea* or business. You should find out what he pays to work at his *company*.

      Innovation= Domain registration

      Who knew?

      • Frank your killing me. :) dont take my lines and try to use them against me. check out this good food for thought from Sun micros Mcneely regarding a successfull startup. Here are some excellent quotes.

Look for ideas that are “off the beaten path of conventional wisdom,” and not “intuitively obvious.”
“The more people it’s not obvious to, he said, the better chance you have.” http://www.vator.tv/news/show/.....-the-rules

If I understand you right frank your claiming nothing i say, do, or own makes any sense. Put your money where your mouth is. http://professionallocator.nin...../mylocator

        WisdomLocator.com

      • What you are doing and saying is “intuitively obvious”, so much so that it was done 10 years ago and it eventually morphed into what you see at yahoo today.

        Ask.com or Google.com ???

You would have said ask.com and you would have been wrong.

        Betting is illegal.

Your “solution” to search sounds appropriate to those over 60 that don’t really use the interwebs. They use the yellow pages.

I’m done, back to work. We actually sell a service in a really small niche in our state where we have 75K customers, which is all we need.

And that, is all you need to know about my business dealings because this site is about the companies being covered, not the companies of people commenting.

Quit self-promoting and just join the conversation if you wish. Add substance, not links.

  • Kewl, we now can monitize our apps for $0.50 CPM as oppose to $0.10 CPM?

  • However you look at it, the investors are smart betting Chris and Mike continue to execute and build a successful company. Facebook has become a staple to millions and Appssavvy brings a unique set of values and relationships to help monetize these apps. way to go!

  • I know chris and team well….very smart / passionate and get the space. Congrats and good luck!
