For those nuts out there like us that use just about every social website there is, the upcoming version 2 of Alert Thingy’s AIR desktop application may be just what you need. The current version of the service supports Twitter, Flickr and Friendfeed. But version 2, which will be released this month, adds support for Digg, YouTube, Facebook, Jaiku, Pownce and Tumblr as well. Creator Jeremy Baines hasn’t let us test the new version yet, but he did send us the teaser screen shot below. Can’t wait to try it out.
Alert Thingy 2.0 should be released sometime this month. Get the current version here.

Where is the disclaimer Mike?
Right. I own a small piece of a smaller piece of a company that I didn’t mention that has a side product that I also didn’t mention that competes with Alert Thingy.
disclosure ?? – didn’t howard baines also design the techcrunch website ? (they mention techcrunch being their client on their consulting blog) – perhaps why they get so much PR for their average me-too apps before the features have even launched ?
right. two years ago, they designed a site for us.
you guys are really not getting the whole disclosure thing.
For me its good better to open all these sites once or twice a day in a tab of their own. I use a simple iMacro to automate this. https://addons....efox/addon/3863
The main advantage of this approach is that I have more where I can concentrate on the real work instead of checking for new messages
Excellent.
It’s these easy to use desktops that have the ability to make a tremendous network effect outside of geek/tech circles and into the mainstream.
They’re a great way to bring new users that would have otherwise misunderstood the service of a stand alone social network. I never used twitter until I started using digsby to manage my IM clients. Once I realized how easy twitter can be used a communication tool through a desktop app – I started using it like crazy.
@ Mr. Bean and Mike, thanks for the tools. This has become really easy. All in one. Manage it using single window
We already have Twhirl for this. Then why do you need this adobe air based tool. I am fairly new to twitter and friendfeed. I am overwhelmed by so many tools for twitter. Which one to use and which one to leave?
Looks pretty good and could be very useful. I just have a problem sticking with these types of applications for over a week.
This looks interesting, but still tweetdeck is my favourite air app for all things social…
that would be EXTREMELY useful as all of my sites in my toolbar seem to be social bookmarking sites and I need a universal site to check all my updates at once. i just want it to be easier than the initial attempts of that kind of site

Instead of adding supported sites, why not add features to the current set. Filtering is what is needed and STAT. Who the eff are these people making product decisions? Whoever you are, you suck. Try something different, dont just copy twhirl.
This is quite clever. I’m having Dikran (assistant) set it up so that my Facebook friends get proxied to my Flickr friends, and my Twitter contacts to the people on Pownce. They are all chatting with each other, and we can watch them just like the little ants in an ant farm.
Is there any way to beta test 2.0? It looks beautiful.
looks good..

I love alert thingy but use twhirl. It got buggy on me. Looking forward to this – these are clever talented guys who deserve success
Shameless Plug…
http://www.gruvie.com makes this even easier by putting it all on the web, so you can access it from anywhere. Not only brings in everything so you can see your activity in one place, but allows you to publish to multiple accoutns in one step.

to me, it looks great.
and i would like to try it on my laptop
Just wanted to point out that the support for FriendFeed was dropped in version 2 as well as version 3. :: sadness ::
