Who cares whether they win or lose. Real's convoluted DVD ripping process keeps the disc's DRM. It's just a ploy to circumvent DMCA legal problems. Real is hoping if they win the case they'll create an umbrella that rippers can (pay to) hide under. So far it's not working out. They followed the letter of the law and they're still getting sued.

In the year this will take to settle out in the courts, you could get a Netflix subscription and a 1TB drive, and use DVD43 to collect several hundred decrypted DVD images. Throw in a Mac Mini to play them on your TV and still be under $4/movie.

Of course in a few years you'll have to do it all over again for Blu-Ray, so it isn't really worth the effort whether it's legal or not.

there is a point where these big companies will give up and start supporting these type of software developments. in the begining the same sort of cases were there for famous YouTube but after sometime the same companies who were complaining start promoting their videos via YouTube, to gain a wide attention

The little guy vs. Hollywood lawyers storyline has grown knee-jerk and tired. This is not the Napster days were there weren't legal alternatives. I don't even know where to begin, but think iTunes, Hulu and fat Blu-ray discs. Real is simply trying to put on the Shawn Fanning cape to try to win fans and relevance. It doesn't fit well.

Insane - a law suit to argue the legality of what everyone is doing already anyway (and have been for years). Ridiculous especially when you consider that being a Real Networks product - the dvd ripper probably totally sucks anyway.

Amazing stuff. I am happy that Real Networks if fighting this. The believe in their product and hopefully this will turn out in their favor and ultimately in consumers favor.
