Any college basketball fans who’ve been watching the bank failures and consolidations recently will understand and appreciate this September Madness chart. This was reportedly created by a general partner at Sansome Partners named Mark Slavonia.
I wonder if the U.S. Congress will make it to the Final Four. Click for larger view.

Despite the seriousness of the current situation, I still got a good laugh from the chart
I would have put Lehman vs Merrill Lynch instead of Lehman vs Barclays
You are definitely a banker, nice attention to detail!
Congress VS (MCCAIN or OBAMA) wonder who’s coming out of it!
What so funny about this chart, other than the fact that it is obscenely stupid.
Obscene? Obscene is the mess that Wall Street and Congress and the Administration have jointly made of our economy.
Get a sense of humor while waiting on the unemployment line.
oh, cmon… get a grip..
good laugh, shame he can’t spell Barclays.
That is what makes this chart funnier, haha.
He´s probably a client of Charles Schwab Corp.
my money on goldman
This is the best thing I have seen in days.
Unlike in basketball, I for one am not enjoying the financial chaos, even if some of the cartoons are a lot of fun.
Idea: make a site with the cartoons from day to day, since the crisis is evolving so quickly most of the cartoons are out of date within a week. Might be fun a few months down the road to revisit it all.

Dear LP,
This is the value I bring to Sansome. Please continue to pay your 2% management fee and 25% carry. As you can see I have much time on my hand.
Please accept this as a capital call for your committed amount of $_________.

lmao this chart is funny. nice presentation.
National City should be on there instead of wells.
uhh why is this on techcrunch? lame.
Eh, hush. At base Mike is still just a blogger, and so if he wants to comment on something else, let him be.
And this is was frakking funny.
Grow up and get a sense of humor. Or write your own blog and set your own mind-numbing rules.
Wells Fargo is still there? Why do you have a (bye) on its name???
Don’t follow sports much, do ya? It means they didn’t have a competitor on the first round. Don’t worry. Their next match should be a piece of cake.

You missed the nationalisation of Bradford and Bingley yesterday,
and the Queen didn’t buy Northern Rock,
all her money is tied up in porn!
Hey TC…
Learn when to use png or gif instead of jpg. It’ll make you look less like tech amateurs.
Emacs is better than vi.
PNG/GIF and JPEG are not interchangeable formats that only zealots argue over. There are actual technical reasons why one is superior to the other in certain cases. I suggest you learn them before making more ignorant statements.
Ignorant statement? only a true geek would even know what emacs and vi are - lighten up on the techno-rhetoric
Sad, funny, and true. Here’s hoping that the American people, and tax payers in particular, come out on top. But for some reason I doubt it
The Truth Shall Set You Free
Beautiful!!!
Funny stuff, but too many byes that could easily be filled in.
This would be funny if it weren’t so real. These are very disturbing times for our banks and government, but at least this highlights this issue well to to the American public. If you want to protect your money, you either need to take it out of the market or start to diversify it and invest at least some of it overseas. I personally use offshore bank accounts and they have helped me with diversification and asset protection. If you want to read more on why offshore investing is smarter, feel free to visit my website.

The central rectangle should either be filled in completely or given a descriptive label. I suggest “The Black Hole”.
This is brilliant, especially the inclusion of the foreign players. Though for full inclusion, the Asian markets and the Russian market would I guess have to come in as completely different sides, with Asia possibly matched up against the eventual victor in the center, and Russia losing no matter what happens because of the ongoing economizing on gas.
My question is, where does the American public fit in? Are they taking a bye on the entire contest, do they lose no matter what, or do we view them as the “owners” of the political players, since right now the scramble seems to be to appeal to them and keep them on one’s side, if one is an elected official?
In which case, to extend the metaphor:
Bush & Paulson have to be seen as the lackluster coaching staff, who are being allowed to play out until retirement in January rather than be fired.
The members of Congress are playing their hearts now, because they don’t want to be traded. (Although if they *are* traded, they’ll likely join the financial sector for much greater benefits and salary.)
I think Barclays has potential. With their tremendous backcourt duo of the Lehman twins, they should be able to make it to the Elite 8 at least. But I don’t think they can go all the way… how are they going to get past the US Congress, with their bipartisan zone defense and sharpshooters knocking down 700billion-pointers from long range?
My pick: Goldman/Berkshire (I consider them the same team) FTW!
WACHOVIA is now WELLS FARGO!
ok, a few mods.
1) Should have Golden West vs Wachovia, with Golden West winning
2) Make it a double elimination (or triple even) for Wachovia - bring them back - but somehow you’ve got to work in Shitty-bank/Wells…hmmm
For those of you that think it’s obscene and can’t see the humor in it - stop being the miserable troll that you are.
