RealScoop Tells You When Politicians And Celebrities Are Lying
by Don Reisinger on September 28, 2008

RealScoop

Have you ever wanted to know when politicians are lying? A startup called RealScoop thinks it can nail it down for you in real-time with the help of voice analysis technology that it claims is used widely in law enforcement and fraud prevention.

Dubbed the Believability Meter, RealScoop’s analysis technology analyzes over 100 vocal elements of the human voice and performs over 1,000 calculations per second to find out if a politician or celebrity is telling the truth. On Thursday, RealScoop will cover the Vice Presidential debate between Sarah Palin and Joe Biden, putting each one’s statements to its Believability test.

The site itself features a bunch of videos collected from outside sources that are played in its own player. The player features a meter that changes dynamically as it analyzes what’s being said. If it believes the person is lying, the meter turns red and moves towards the “highly questionable” area. If it believes the person is telling the truth, the meter stays green and in the “believable” section.

I watched a few of the videos on the site and found it questionable, to say the least. Maybe there is some real evidence to prove that this sort of technology can tell if a person is lying or not, but let’s face it — there’s no way to prove it and I’m not sure, after watching the videos, how a person can go from believable to questionable by uttering a few simple phrases like “uh.”

I’m sure the highly political among us will find value in this to help prove their point that the candidates they support are telling the truth and those they do not are lying, but the more objective among us will see this for what it is: pure rubbish.

Some Democrats and Republicans do lie in order to keep their heads politically above water.

crap! this lying detector is pure crap!

this is just bull crap.
totally crap

Real Scoop is try all that ever you can. They will keep on lay.

Pure Bullshit. If there was a good business model… but I can’t see it.

I found there was an entertainment value.

TruthLocator.com

I hope this RealScoop is accurate, because voters wants to know if Obama, McCain and or Palin ever lied about anything.

Voice Stress Analyzers are pretty worthless; they give you about a 50% of being able to determine if someone is lying or not. The US Army tried using it in Iraq and found that it was pretty useless.

Love it - we’re starting to see exactly what I said here: http://digitalcomposting.wordp.....detection/

Tell me when politicians are lying?

Will they also tell me on which days the sun will come up?

They will also tell you if water is wet!!!!!

2 face from batman. If it were up to me, Canada would be sunk like a torpedoed submarine.

To anybody from either campaign reading. I want a candidate that will work at turning Canada into America 2.

So that phrases like this:

http://laws.justice.gc.ca/en/S.....B-9.9///en
“Her Majesty enacts as follows:”

That went out in 1776. Crown corporations, and crown anything for that matter need to be removed from North America. The british and french empires need to be wiped from the face of our continent once and for all. That includes any “cultural rights” granted in lieu of civil liberties such as exist in Quebec and for first nations.
http://www.energy.gov.ab.ca/OilSands/oilsands.asp
Secure Canada’s resources for America.

And put the gov general and all other unelected appointees of the crown in jail permanently.

I’m voting for that leader. I don’t care if they made conflicting statements really. All people make conflicting statements over time because situations change and people can have a different opinion after considering new facts.

Though Obama told Canada the same day as he renounced NAFTA, that really is hypocrisy.

That should read “So that phrases like this: “Her Majesty enacts as follows:”” will never darken the doorstep of the Americas again.

What is with all these stupid links??? Shameless self-promotion, garbage.
By the way, we already know that politicians [and 'celebrities'] constantly lie…
Only the very naive [read stupid, no offense] would need/visit the site.

Pete

Politicians have a built in lie detector, if their lips are moving they’re lying.

Better not scan Obama! Hahaha!!

They actually did a scan for Barak Hussein Obama and he brought the system down in milliseconds!!!

I think it was nanoseconds!!!

Yes Jenny White White Jr

Gotta love how hicks like you keep mentioning his middle name. I bet you’re obese

Don, Why do you find the results suspect? Is it because Democrats seem to be lying more than Republicans? Would you still find it suspect if the results fit a little more into your world-view?

Just for the record, there is at least a little bit of potential for something like this to actually be working. In poker, professional players put a lot of effort into listening to how the other opponents talk because they look for certain differences with things like the person’s breathing that can give it away. No idea if RealScoop does this or if it’s accurate though.

The Palin / McCain campaign tells a lot of lies. I’m glad there’s finally an easier way to keep track of them all.

Sara, you poor, naive soul… Somehow you still hope that [any] politicians would trip and accidentally come up with a microscopic fragment of truth???
Unfortunately, they all lack the “truth” gene by the time they start their career.

“Real” [?????] scoop IS NOT A BUSINESS!!! — It is another dirty, sneaky attempt by the Obama camp to spread misinformation and confuse people. They put up the money and the concept was created by by Barak Hussein’s brainless liberal minions. One thing missing [of course] is the “I apporve this…”
It is not surprising that the Palin video is up and front, together with the Slick Willie statement Obama “will win pretty handily.” — He will not, and for the Clintons to “help” with Barak Hussein’s campaign is akin to having multiple knives in their bellies!!! They hate him, but they have to do for the [f*****g] party. Just remember, for these pathetic clowns, the “party” is first, then their money, children and far, far down the list, the future of our country.

Ditto.
To Don Reisinger: man, although TC is an open forum, you know better and you should be ashamed of helping to contribute to the desperate and shameless Obama’s attempts to resort to anything in order to win the elections, be it lies, obfuscation, misinformation and much, much more from his sewer mind.

You want to know how a politician is lying ? Their lips are moving.

You don’t need an application for it. Everything they say is a total lie and if you believe any of it, you are just gullible.

On their web site, the claim it is not voice stress analysis, but do say it tries to detect emotions, which sounds a lot like voice stress analysis to me. And it lacks any mention of independent verification that this stuff works. Seems weak and puffed up to me.

The relationship between emotions and accuracy is complicated even in the normal people that these techniques are presumably developed on. Famous people are way out on the end of any number of bell curves, and the situations they are recorded in are far from normal as well. There’s no reason to believe this works any better than people just listening and deciding for themselves. Come to think of it, that would be a more interesting startup than RealScoop.

I think that this is good for entertainment value as well. I think this is a good way of measuring stress in a persons voice. One thing I did notice is that when the speaker showed passion or anger and piped up because they wanted to make a point the believability went down. I think the bugs need to be worked out.

We have a less-technical, more-elbow-grease solution that involves finding contradictory statement, either from public records or their own mouth.

Lie Count

Granted, we’re only tracking the presidential campaigns from convention to the polls in a non-partisan way, but it’s still a start.

Non-partisan way? Yeah, right. I do not see an Obama video anywhere on this site.

Wouldn’t it be better if it told you when politicians do NOT lie? ;-)

You need an app to tell you when either of these clowns are lying?

PS. Not that it’s terribly important but the debate is on Thursday, not Tuesday.

This is very disturbing trend when we can’t trust the banks or our government, but at least this should serve as a wake up call to all American investors. If you want to protect your money, you need to diversify and invest at least some of it overseas. These are hard times for American investing firms. I personally use offshore bank accounts and they have helped me with diversification and asset protection. If you want to read more on why offshore investing is smarter, feel free to visit my website.

Another shameless plug.

Frank,

Yeah, that sounds like a real American solution. Let’s all send our money overseas. That will help rebuild the American economy, build jobs, and ensure hard-working Americans have a secure future.

Offshore bank accounts help with diversification? Yeah, how about they help with tax evasion. If the FDIC insures your deposits to $100K, why not diversify your money across banks to make sure your money is secure? Oh right, cayse if your account is in the Cayman Islands, your assets aren’t protected from the Tax Man. Got it.

You are part of the problem, not part of the solution.

It would be more accurate to call it a “Gullability meter”. The Scientologist use more credible technology - enough said!

haha… USA is toast!

Regrettably, this doesn’t solve the fundamental problem: Most politicians pathologically believe the lies they say. Since they don’t feel as if they’re lying, lie-detection software doesn’t work. That’s not to say that what they’re asserting is truth. It’s their truth. Not The Truth.

So how do we know if Realscoop is lying? :)

I have a truth detector for when I watch politicians - such as in a debate. When the moderator says “and that’s the end of tonight’s debate”, I know something true has been said.

Im not sure why you guys even posted about this…. I don’t understand how it could possible work and I don’t believe it.

ha ha ha….lolz, better develop an application to filter truth instead… :) pure entertainment I guess…:)

Just an attempt at a tool of propaganda, just like polls.

And how about during the debates how the audience could click how they feel into a device to get graphed into silly hills and valleys.

What a farce.

I join the ranks of people saying … Michael what are you doing profiling these jokers? I KNOW there are better technologies out there. This isn’t even interesting - its a waste of time.

I’d want to know the political orientation of the researchers before I decided it was worth my while to accept.

Is this service a joke service for parties?
If so, it seems that this service will delivery much fun to us.

Modelling tends to be perceived by many as an easy occupation with great rewards - free designer clothes,
lucrative campaigns and a glamorous lifestyle - that sometimes its easy to forget that its a profession that is not without its pressures. I wanted to get an honest and open insight into the modelling industry and caught up with the gorgeous model and dancer, Nina Malone. A previous contestant of Britains Next Top model, Nina has since gone on to carve out a
successful career for herself and has travelled to some of the worlds most
beautiful destinations as part of her job. I was lucky enough to grab some
of Ninas time to talk about her experiences. I hope you enjoy the interview and for
those who write in asking for modelling tips/advice.this one is for you.
