i believe in my vision that the economic crisis is not what people should be shouting at.
1 the crisis is just a global warning, and a distraction. and the world at large is not concentrating on that. and to know more about that, send this to comment to the government and i will tell them more about the warning

And I'm sorry Mr. Jerome Silverstone, but you are terribly mistaken. One can conclude from your ideas that you are either a Socialist, or you are sympathetic to a Socialist or Communist cause. Most of the problems we see today is from the government's meddling hands in the economy. Without capitalism and the practice of "economic Darwinism", you will have simply converted your free market economy into a command economy, quite reminiscent of the Soviet Union. You've also made the problem of homelessness out to be much bigger than it truly is. Sure, we have homeless people in our country, but so do you. However, if you are of able body and sound mind, there is really NO excuse for you to be homeless. Those who are disabled are taken care of in our country. But there is no logic in forcing the masses to suffer because some people were foolish enough to throw their lives away, when they had, and STILL have, every opportunity to improve their situation. Homelessness is NOT a terminal condition (unless you are too mentally or physically disabled to work...and like I said, the disabled are well cared for).

The bottom line is, I refuse to pay extra taxes, or give our government more power over us and our economy, because there are a small minority of people who choose to not work, be drug addicts, or freeload off of society. However, I have NO problem seeing my tax dollars go to help disabled people who can NOT take care of themselves. I'm sorry, but I don't think you have much room to commentate on American politics when you have no clue what it is like for us (no offense intended). That is why I won't comment on Britain's domestic policies, because I have no idea what it is like to experience it.

You know where the real blame lies? The media... If anyone is more guilty of constructing an economic crisis, it is the media. They have the power to make or break Wallstreet, corporate America, and the economy as a whole. They have the power to make or break a politician's career, the power to not just change, but CREATE public opinion.

So how exactly can the media create, or facilitate the creation of an economic crisis? Simple... They begin by finding a small piece of evidence that the economy is getting rough, and they spice it up (as they did years ago). They make it out to have much further reaching implications than it really does. It's blown out of proportion and made into "super media hype". Well, that scares the daylights out of people who depend on their investments, especially big businesses. They cut spending and start saving up more money. People start trying to sell their stocks right away, fearing large losses to come. With all the people flooding the market with stocks for sale, the over-supply drives the price down. Large businesses start losing large sums of money. The media is delighted by the turmoil they have fabricated, and continues to portray a "doomsday economy". Now the major corporations have lost a good deal of money, and have to lay off employees, thus people start losing jobs. This hurts even the smaller affiliate companies that work with/for the larger businesses, and they lay off employees as well. Now the media can report on the millions of jobs being lost. The general population becomes very fearful, and start to develop the "hoarding mentality". It's not hard to see how vicious of a cycle this is. Losses to the large businesses hurt the average man/woman, and that in turn hurts the large businesses more. Throughout all of this, the media sets the mood of more terrible loss to come. All of this is made 50x's more effective during a time of war, or some type of international "drama". So here we stand today...

But don't get me wrong. There's certainly more to it than the media. The media is only in on it for the great stories, and to help them push across their leftist political agenda. There's a lot of politicians (on both sides) and even businesses profiting from all of this. You don't think everyone is losing money, do you? No, greed also plays a large factor in this. While we all suffer, there are a few making massive profits off of this. Many politicians exploit the situation to get into office (bring anyone to mind?). The fact is, our government is polluted with corruption, and our media is spoon feeding us garbage to keep us blind. Greed could be called the essence of human nature. Lust for control and power is its driving force. Don't trust the media, and especially the government. They just want to lead us like sheep to the slaughter. Don't think for one second that anyone, especially the media darling we know as Obama, is going to change anything for the good. NO politician will be our savior, our messiah, or the answer to our problems. No, the answer to our problems lies within us. We as American people must reclaim our country from these heartless bureaucrats, and give the power back to who it truly belongs to... US!

crisis? what crisis????
In my opinion it is a well planned & orchestrated THEFT, FRAUD & embezzlement of peoples money by USA, & EU civil servants, bankers & their employees, who should be arrested & THEIR money confiscated.
the money they claim is wiped out,..It is not "lost"
It has been stolen & embezzled, ..it lies in the others accounts,....it is somewhere !

Iceland (the Patsey nation),..funds GWBush's golden handshake,...?
Iceland to be declared bankrupt?

Or maybe it all has something to do with the fact OIL has just been discovered in huge quantities off the North East coast of Iceland,..
Drilling rights were granted over one year ago,...those rights finished in April 2008

The exploratory data has been done,..the Polar Ice caps are melting,..new technology is available for deep-hole drilling in the oceans,..
Drilling for oil in Iceland is now a certainty,..and will happen in the next few years
The USA and Europe want to stake their claim to it,..
Icelands bankers and government are to be made lackeys and puppets to the odious IMF

Wow. Talk about someone who doesn't look at his own data. You state at the begining of the article that the we were in about $5 billion in 99 but that it skyrocketed after that. The problem wasn't in the slightly easier to get mortgages of the nineties. It was in the deregulation and questionable lending practices that followed the republicans through the executive and legislative branches of our federal government, combined with other factors like unemployment, free trade with countries that don't trade with us fairly, and general cronyism, in the early part of the 21st century. I love it when people like you stand up and point the finger at Bill Clinton's administration because you don't have any more info than to make a couple of general statements of your opinion. I can speak from experience with this as well.

The end of the Clinton era in Michigan saw families being able to afford the mortgages that would get them into a more stable and all around better lifestyle. People in my town would fully admit to having too much credit debt and worked hard to reduce it. It didn't always work but they stayed afloat. These people didn't start having issues paying for those mortgages and credit cards until all of their jobs were being shipped over seas. Being left with no work, many of these blue collar people started to default on mortgages they couldn't afford. These people didn't stop paying the mortgages they got in the 90's because they just couldn't afford the monthly payment right from the get go. It was that the repubulican administration in Washington increased free trade often at the expense of the american worker and drove unemployment rates through the roof.

You also fail to recognize that most of the housing bust happened to people with second or third homes. Investment properties. Now, what happens when people can't find work and they rent?

Mike, you need to go back to school or at least do a little more than a market centric explanation of the greatest financial crisis of my generation. You try to pin the blame on working people and neglect all of the other factors (of which I have only presented a few of many). Over simplifying things like this not only hurts people trying to get a better perspective of what's going on but also contiues the financial ignorance that you seem to hate so much.

Wow. Talk about someone who doesn’t look at his own data. You state at the begining of the article that the we were in about $5 billion in 99 but that it skyrocketed after that. The problem wasn’t in the slightly easier to get mortgages of the nineties. It was in the deregulation and questionable lending practices that followed the republicans through the executive and legislative branches of our federal government, combined with other factors like unemployment, free trade with countries that don’t trade with us fairly, and general cronyism, in the early part of the 21st century. I love it when people like you stand up and point the finger at Bill Clinton’s administration because you don’t have any more info than to make a couple of general statements of your opinion. I can speak from experience with this as well.

This whole economic meltdown situation is simply to do with the current presidential election and military warfare in the middle east (iran) or Russia. Fannie Mae is just been used as a scapegoat to cover up the world order plan. Watch brainwashing fox news Bill o Reilly 'blast' republican congressman Barney Frank on youtube. U.S.A is not entirely to blame for this as the U.N and E.U are involved. World economy crisis is just phase 1.

The graph above is very misleading. It shows as if $3b is nothing compared to $9. The graph SHOULD start at $0 but it wouldn't make the last 12 years more exciting in growth of debt.
