@Patrick Why would it be for "fanboys" only?

I think all events are opportunities, they are what you make of them.

Last year their was a hat battle betwixt Ryan and Eric from data visualizers Stamen. Ryan's looked a tighter fit and the consensus delivered by sms to an interactive cloud busting tele promptertron, was that Eric looked 'cooler', a sub debate followed in tent alpha 5 about the meaning of 'cooler'.

All in all it was a jolly experience and I was hoping to be invited to prattle on myself, sadly Ryan has not been in touch so people will have to wait another year to hear about being a Fat Man.

Oh yawn.
The same old people turning up and droning on about how wonderful they are.
Strictly for fanboys only.

The people doing interesting stuff are too busy to attend - busy doing interesting stuff.

You get much more from the casual meet-ups, than these big conferences.

Last year's FOWA event in London was very good. I attend a fair few of these things and FOWA London '07 is one of the top conferences I've been to. Heard some not so great things about the NY event, but reasonably sure the event in October will rock.

future of web apps is dismal for 99% of the 5 thousand or so on facebook. people only care about the top 5. Apps development is a crowded flooded market with millions of dollars in venture funds trying to find that app-needle in a haystack mentality. apps are will become like software, dime a dozen.

From my experience, I went to FOWD in New York at the Jacob Javits center in November of last year. It was completely not worth it. We couldn't see the screen due to the glare of the sunlight all morning. The presentations (not necessarily the presenters) were very bland. Obviously we know is Ajax is the future kind of thing... now what? The best way to get groundbreaking stuff people are working on are to go to local barcamps and smaller venues.

Doesn't this section of TC already have a 'winner' with 1,000+ votes for WrapMail, which is like 700 or so more than the next pitch. Why not just invite or award the WrapMail guys?
