hmm. fun eh? I'm a little concerned this is like when my boss has a "fun" project or opportunity.

I'm pretty happy with how it works now especially with google gears/greasemonkey.

case in point, I'm commenting right from reader now. now to learn how to weed out my feeds and stop adding so much great content. can google do that?

Google Reader is great for what it does and at my favorite price--free. But where in the hell is the search by multiple tags feature. The company makes the best damn search engine on the planet, but if I want to search for two tags I am SOL.

Joel. Fuck that. If it's not obvious, then I'm not going to go get a PH fucking D to figure out how to use it. The obvious thing is a button that lets you add a category. Anything else is just fucked up stupid programming by summer school dorks.

I'd love to see Google Reader add a feature like Instapaper, making it easy to tag (via bookmarklet or whatever) non-RSS pages for later reading, then display them in the reader.

goggl claim of search innovation leadership is rediculous. example- googl suggestiontool that took them 10 years to come out with spits out 6.5 million results for tech crunch. really only needed one result.

This site would be much more educational if we can focus on why gaggl is so lousy. All they care about is cpc and impressions and page views. User and business experience and content quality takes a back seat and there products reflect that.

UserRank is Coming. 10 years from now we will look back and pagerank and addense and saying what the hell were we thinking.

Love Google Reader.
I probably spend at least 15-20% of my fricking day reading my feeds through it.

It's already pretty awesome, but I'd like to see:
-better folder/tags management; the current way to do it is embarrassingly unusable
-themes ala iGoogle; I spend so much time in Reader that I'd like to spice things up a bit with themes

Has anyone else noticed that, when keying down the list menu, reader now scrolls the list up, rather than your cursor down through it?

I find this quite annoying and slows down my scanning as the screen is constantly refreshing so it's hard to read.

I think Google created an excellent RSS reader and everyone saw that it was better than the other (web-based) ones out there, so they've decided to rest on their laurels and put like zero resources into it. These recent changes are probably the equivelent of 10-20 man-hours or something not much more. Users have been clamoring for years for more flexibility in organizing feeds/tags/folders, as well as better mobile functionality, but it seems like 95% of that has fallen on deaf ears. Why can't you remark an item unread after you've marked it read but starred? Why do tags show up only in seperate objects - ie why can't you put them inside folders? Why can't you drag feed items to their tag rather than having to type it in each time? Why can't you automatically tag an item (you can do this, but the tag in this case becomes a folder - the whole distinction of the two then becomes murky) The list goes on and on. Google, invest some more developers - this is a reader that's used by a ton of people but eventually we'll move on when the competition inevitably catches up and surpasses you...

Appears that Feed Demon is a step above, already having these and many other outstanding features. (Thus why I use it) Balloon popup notifying me of every updated feed is just one of them. No browser window necessary either.

's alright, I suppose, but not very exciting - as indeed you so eloquently put it! ;)

Never mind a tiny handful of minor tweaks. As they seem to be at the top of the Reader tree and have all that computing power available to them, why can't they make GReader fetch updates / new posts more quickly?!

I don't, in any case, see why I can set it up so that "last updated" is shown on all my subscriptions without me having to click "show details" every bleedin time...

Having said all of that, it's nice to see that the product is being worked on and little improvements are better than nothing for months and then, bang, a massive update (a la Windows Live etc).

Google loves coming up with innovations that in reality serve no purpose. This seems to be one of them. I am fine with my current reader and as long as it updates me with future reads, that's all the "fun" I'll need.

The better additions are the ability to mark items "Keep Unread" and, if you have unread items in your feed, not having to scroll-scroll-scroll through all the read ones when you return later to view those items you left unread.
