Google Will Show You Where to Vote

Google Election

It looks like Google will be adding to its election maps this voting season by offering a Google mapplet that will offer polling location information before the big day in November. (In case you are not sure where to go to vote).

The site is not yet complete, but it will provide users with “voting location, registration information, and more.” What that more is has yet to be determined since, as the site points out, “all voting location information will be available by mid-October. Until then, please check with your state or local election officials to verify your voting location.”

If you input your address into the service, it won’t return any of the promised information. Instead, it provides you with the number of days left to register to vote and helps you acquire an absentee ballot if you need one.

  • Days left for registration to be received by your election officials: 14

    Thanks for the reminder!

  • Part of me says it’s kind of funny but again the ideal of having that information freely available is kind of cool to! Sometimes not knowing where to vote can make people not vote at all!

  • Not mentioned is that google will also tell you who you will vote for.

  • but when I get to the poll, is there a button that says “I’m feeling lucky”?

    • haha! thanks for the laugh :)

i wish there was an “i’m feeling lucky” button for life.

@roman – you’re probably right. but not only that; every major news source would have a good number of articles devoted in google’s name if they were to specify which candidate they backed up.

  • this election will be stolen by the organized crime republican regime. Mccain already said ” let there be no doubt, I will be the next……….” his words show that he has already been told what is gonna happen. why dont google do something truly meaningful and create a election fraud fool proof vote system?

    RepublicanLocator.com- Dont Be Rediculous!

  • A great add-on would be if the actual ballot were presented to me. I’d like to know exactly what candidates and issues will be presented, and I find it difficult to get this information. I am almost always caught by surprise by a local issue, or something that wasn’t mentioned in my local paper.

Sure, the McCain vs. Obama thing is important, but my individual vote is relatively unimportant. However, my vote carries a lot more weight on the local issues.

And then after Google gets voting location accurate, and complete ballot accurate, then they should have a digg+wiki (dicki?) that allows each side of the issue or candidate to lay out their argument in as persuasive of a manner as possible, with voting possible, to get the best 1 minute persuasion, 5 minute, 10 minute and 30 minute presentation. (or one page, 5 page, video, etc.)

That would be a HUGE public service.

  • This is awesome. I know the Obama camp is trying to do something similiar with Vote For Change at: http://bit.ly/4kWgnw

  • Commendable action by Google. Anything to generate interest of the public in the elections is welcome.

  • Hang on just a second – I was a fan of this until I double checked with my local city poll booth locator. The Google election map recommended one location but my city’s poll booth locator recommended another. I think my city’s one is more reliable because it returns a result that shows my ward etc. Is the Google map based just on proximity? Proximity is not an accurate determinant of where you can and cannot vote. To the extent that this map was meant to be a guide, it may end up leading people astray. We need to fix this. Don Reisinger – please post a follow up. Check polling booth location between the Google Vote Map and this polling booth locator used by the District of Columbia: http://www.dcbo...d_pollingplace/

  • Google maps voting booth pointed to wrong location……..way to go google

  • what to do if your state is not having polling places this year and the mailed ballot has not been received
