Advertising platform Adap.tv has closed $13 million in Series B funding. The round was led by Spark Capital, along with Redpoint Ventures and Gemini Israel Fund. As part of the deal, Spark Capital’s Dennis Miller will join the company’s board of directors. Adap.tv’s total funding to date is now $23 million.
Adap.tv makes an ad platform called OneSource that allows online video content owners to access ads from a number of sources using a single interface. The service supports various formats including overlays and pre/post rolls. Partnerships with a large number of major content providers include Metacafe and Blip.tv.
Adap.tv has shifted its focus since we originally introduced them last fall. The service is now primarily an ad network optimization platform, providing access to most of the top ad networks, along with many smaller ones.

I wonder where all these guys live… On the moon? In Los Altos Hills? Times are going to be very tough, only biggest ad networks will survive- Google, maybe MSFT- and these idiots keep funding…
That’s their plan also SutroStyle… To be a big ad network and survive.
I’m in favor of those actions. If there are more ad network, the prizes will rize…
Only biggest ad networks will survive… size isn’t the problem, it’s quality. Advertisers will just focus their budgets on more ROI measurable part of online advertisement, which is search advertisement, instead of wasting their money on ineffective display ads. Death to display ads.
I agree, however, after looking at their video ads… I’m not sure how successful they’d be. I was watching some of the videos and I was so hooked on the videos that i didn’t even pay attention to the ads on the videos. I especially like the one where all those boys were kicking the ball around using a lot of acrobatic moves. That was pretty cool. Anyway, that’s just my half a cent.
Sorry, follow-up and clarification. I’m basically against their overlay and expandable. The one I see working best might be the pre-roll. I didn’t care to look at the other types.
Global advertising is $1.5 trillion plus. Google is $20 billion plus – about 1%.
Advertising is a fragmented business. Reports show that Google is growing fast, but losing online share.
I do question this investment. It looks like an attempt to flip some IP.

Spark capital invested in this??
It’s not typical for them to do so, as this is a “losing” space – very hard to get to the point whereby an exit is viable. It is after all yet another – yes, yet another ad platform.
big bet, and I think this one is going to be a big loser.
let’s all hope I am wrong…
