Yahoo is transitioning to a new layout for its SearchMonkey results, which can be customized by outside developers as part of Yahoo’s Open Strategy. The new design features deep links, which are horizontally aligned under each result’s title and the image is now featured on the right-hand side. With the new layout, the SearchMonkey team (whose leader is departing), believes it can create higher clickthrough rates for app developers.
Current SearchMonkey developers and partners will be happy to know that apps built using the previous template will automatically work with the new template, but a one-page best practices document will accompany developer materials to help them provide an optimal user experience.
After a couple months in beta, the new templates are now generally available and ready for use.

Don:
Are reports from any publishers making use of SearchMonkey available?
I’d be curious to know how much benefit in terms of click-through rates there is from enhancing one’s hits in Yahoo’s SERPs.
Perhaps somebody from Yahoo could comment about observed average click-through improvements or maybe you could get this info for your readers?
Any stats on useage of SearchMonkey (or BOSS for that matter)? I don’t know too many folks who:
1)Use Yahoo search
& for those who do
2)enabled the feature
Can you guys create a list of sites leveraging Boss?
Wow, you sure do live in a bubble. Yahoo still has the number one search wordwide (not US). This feature is default on for the top ones.
What is your source for “Yahoo still has the number one search worldwide”? According to Comscore Google had over 4x the searches of Yahoo worldwide in Dec. 2007 – http://www.coms....asp?press=2018
Not the best source but a source. As for the top SearchMonkey apps being set as a default, there are not that many. The current six defaults are Yelp, LinkedIn, Video, Yahoo Travel, Flickr and Yahoo! Local.
Yahoo is doing good..
I’m guessing they did this to parse the rich results easier. Very clean. I like it a lot!
I think the new templates improves scannability of the overall page. Nice work Yahoo!
Good Post, thanks for sharing information with all of us. I am interested in knowing more about search monkey.
