Yahoo Loses Search Monkey Product Manager
by Erick Schonfeld on September 16, 2008

Yahoo may be pushing ahead with its strategy to open itself up to outsiders (this weekend was Hack Day), but insiders are still streaming out the door. Even some of the product managers driving the open strategy are not sticking around.

We have learned that Amit Kumar, the director of product management behind Yahoo’s Search Monkey and semantic Web initiatives, is leaving by the end of the week. He will be joining semantic Web startup Dapper as Vice President of product management.

The exodus continues.

Some folk are saying that “Jerry Yang” himself is a monkey for always messing up financially. But, you didn’t hear that from me…lol

Look, can we just “agree” on a “reasonably logical way” to use “quotation marks?”

yawho

Is Dapper earning any money? I feel that most companies prefer use real software like good old Perl or iMacros (for AJAX etc) for webscraping :?

I think the “metadata” really needs to be on the page for users to see, because otherwise there is a big opportunity for semantic spam, but I am not sure how feasible it is.

that is very good site and nice looking design

Amit is one of those rare leaders who has ability to paint a great vision as well as the technical chops and internal drive to make it real. I know he’ll do an amazing job at Dapper (he’s always had a startup attitude), and that team very is fortunate to have him.

But for the very reason that Amit always tackled problems that were far bigger than himself, he attracted an incredibly talented team to SearchMonkey that remains committed to the vast possibilities ahead. Arrington et al, we’ll give you the scoop soon enough. :)

dapper looks like a crappy ripoff of yahoo pipes. LAME.

how many of these “let us scan your site for content to widgify” turds are out there? dozens it seems. WASTE OF TIME. this thing was born in the deadpool

hmm dapper will soon go belly up once the web 2.0 bubble bursts

Hmmm.. he is an indian . If I remember correctly an Indian quit google and started ibibo.com… Indians are always jumping ship

Wow, that is so incrediblely racist. Thanks for that.
