Our auction of a physical copy of the Google Chrome comic book is up to $1,501. It ends today and all of the proceeds will go to DonorsChoose, an innovative not-for-profit corporation that raises money for schools.
Only a limited number of these were printed, but Google hasn’t yet said how many there are out there.
If you’d like to continue bidding on the book, please leave your offer below in the comments to this post. The auction ends at 12 noon California time today (Monday) - please be prepared to quickly respond via email and pay via PayPal or credit card. Thanks to every one that bid, this goes to a very good cause.

OMG. What a must-have collector’s item for every valley geek. What a great way to open the week with another valuable, insightful post by our very chief editor, Mike. I can’t help wondering what’s next. Maybe auctioning a Mountain-View delicatessen, a specially baked Apple Kuggle?
Great idea. . .for a great cause.
How many pages is it?
Any samples? where we can find it.
It’s 39 pages… it’s a printed version of what appears at http://www.google.com/googlebooks/chrome/
All good job are fairly simple
Wow….nice idea… how much time will it take to get the book ?
Just another good job for the open source scene thks google!!!
Mike,
It is not clear that other people should put a bid in here in the comments. Also, someone mentioned something about you may get it signed by the artist and Chrome crew - can you confirm please?
You can get a brand new Mac Book with that money.
I m ready to pay $10k for a comic book…lolz
$1,600
I’m so glad they devoted time to writing a comic book rather than testing for security holes.
It’s NOT about the comic people
This is a shot in the dark, but is there a chance that it could appreciate over time? It may be a neat thing to own in 10 years. Also, the mention in TechCrunch would lead to more posts and articles other places (as you know).
It would be worth something obviosusly. What would help out a lot is knowing how many of these were originally printed.
So Mike….how are you verifiying any of the bids? My $1501 was serious, but the other that are higher just MAY BE TOO
Here’s to a great idea and a good use of your comic book.

My bid was $1,600, but if we want go go up only a dollar I guess we are at $1503
Sorry to jam up these comments, but I forgot to ask:
If we win, do we also have any input into the choosing of the projects at Donorschoose.org?
There’s a few worthy entries there that we love and would like to see completed
Thanks

Hi Tex,
It seems people are trying to beat you out, but if you do get some input, will you consider my class?
Best,

Adam,
I’ll look it over…it seems thought that you could find a recording device for cheap or free if all you need to do is record and upload some videos for your students.
Here’s a quick background on some of our team and our associated interests for funding thru Donorschoose.org:
We are all performers in some way and the core team developed:
http://www.podlinez.com (Webby award winner)
http://www.phonecasting.com
http://www.hookupdigits.com
etc etc etc
As performers, we’ve found that the best way to educate, inspire and create a better world is thru direct interaction and art…eg: interactive street performances ala Improveverywhere.com, peepshowminigolf.com, urbanprankster.com.
So, we’re looking for projects that cultivate that within young people, even Pre-K and Kindergarten. Some of us feel that when cut out religion, dogma and politics..you can bring people together under one thing: art…in all it’s forms.
Maybe we’ll win, we’ve got 15 minutes left

Michael,
Just wondering if you get any bids in the last minute will you extend the auction by another 5 minutes like some auctions do?
Great idea to use it for something this good. It is rather a unique piece and may proof to be very valuable for the owner somewhere down the road.
Anyone of you wanna buy a bridge?
Hi Michael / All,
So, what was the result of the auction?
We’re anxiously awaiting our little part of internet history over here…..
