Aside from appearing clueless by asking for an NDA, that's the exact opposite of what you want.

As I argue on http://troy.yort.com/the-anti-nda , unless you're providing a USB thumbdrive of source code with your executive summary, you want a disclosure agreement.

Given the slim odds of funding, try to turn every interaction into more awareness. None of these folks are out to harm you.

Here is some more optimistic commentary on of the current economy and its affect on both Angel and VC investing. There is a YouTube video of the panel discussion that can be viewed: http://www.fundingpost.com/wallstreet.asp

Reply to Chris M. "startups who come here (SV) to live the dream just to get burned in the end"

At least the entrepreneurs that leave with empty pockets do it with a great smile knowing they tried. I guess SV is a very supportive place for specific people. It still remains the perfect entrepreneur tool kit.

"Ron: SV has the entire infrastructure - PR, lawyers, conferences, SEOs. It’s not just the Angels it’s the entire infrastructure that’s impossible to produce elsewhere. Other places don’t have the depth or the amount of choice"

Don't you think so?

When thinking about location, you can't forget about all the stakeholders. For KartMe, customers, employees, partners, and investors are all important to keep happy. And as employees and partners will likely require the most face-to-face contact over the life of the venture, I'll look for my HQ to be near them.

i'm sorry.

but if you really are a serious company, and you want people to contact you. you might start by having your information (phone/email/etc...) listed on your site. i can't take you seriously (7 digit revs) with the basic information not listed on your site!!

so, why would a potential investor take you seriously. remember, you only have one time, to make a 1st impression.

'It’s a portfolio play. You can’t invest in one or two companies - it’s totally random. It’s too hard to say. If you know what is going to happen then it’s not high risk angel investing."

sounds like he is saying "Welcome to the Jungle."

thank you Yossi for tellin' it like it is.

Damon - Yes, just realized. It was a long day.. with high and low :(

Nevertheless, I just realized it was a bad mistake to post "notices" .. (which became spammy) .. comments. Sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused.

Let's celebrate and focus on TC50 for now. There are more than 52 startups with startups in the DemoPit and beyond. Let's wish them the best!

The panels assertion that one must move to Silicon Valley to "make nice" with target investors is ridiculous when considering the big picture. Yes SV is a great place to go for investment and PR, but certainly not success.

As Founders you should never lose site of why you are really in business (hint: it's to actually build a sustainable business) and who you really serve (hint: it's not the person that invests in your company). The following quote by mdanger from This is going to be big, makes my point exceptionally clear....

"Silicon Valley is like a big light bulb, and it attracts a lot of startups who come here to live the dream just to get burned in the end. Starting a business is not about meeting with VCs or belonging to a TechCrunch or Demo club, it is about getting customers to pay you for the value you bring to them. I see a lot of CEOs here in the Silicon Valley who don't seem to realize this. They want to play the competitive game of getting funded, telling the right story to an investor and getting a check from them is validation. But who's to say that the investor really knows better? Or the Techcrunch or Demo selection team for that matter?
Nothing beats market validation, and paying customers as a proof..."

Like Las Vegas most Silicon Valley entrepreneurs leave with empty pockets and a squashed dream or worse stay and become humbled 40-50 somethings that work for stable tech firms and fantasize about what could of been and how much smarter they are then their boss's boss....Don't be that guy (gal).
