Shasta Ventures Expands Team
by Michael Arrington on September 5, 2008

Shasta Ventures, a venture fund managing $460 million and investments in startups like Mint, Flock and Turn, has promoted Jason Pressman to Managing Director and added a new associate, Evan Liang, to the team.

Pressman, which we named a VC to watch back in 2005, was previsously the VP strategy, business development and operations at Walmart.com. Pressman’s investments include Click Forensics, Doostang, iConclude, Mochi Media, OSS-1701, PopJax, ResponseLogix and Tumri.

Liang was previously a product manager at eBay and in business development at Microsoft.

  • This is shocking !
I mean, startups literally beg to get featured on TC and such a stupid Team xpansion news(means no utility to me atleast) is given a place on TC(and that to written by Mike himself…).
C’mon Mike..Countless startups are waiting for you…they deserve this space more than this stuff

  • I’ve met Evan Liang a few times over the last 2 years. Evan is clueless and doesn’t belong to the VC world. He was an average eBay PM and now thinks he’s the hot sh*t because he’s part of the Sand Hill gang. I trust he’ll be among the first to go once Shasta tightens up the belt. I have no mercy for him.

    • I’ve personally known Evan for 4 years, and I can assure you he’s humble, intelligent, kind, and hard-working. In fact, I’m sure he doesn’t categorize himself as part of any “Sand Hill gang”. I wouldn’t typically respond to an incendiary, nonsensical comment, but Evan is too nice a guy and too knowledgeable about technology to let a comment like this go.

  • I can only guess that Mike is angling for a job at Shasta. Otherwise why post this piece of non-news?

  • My guess is that Michael is starting the long-rumored VCCrunch. Seriously, I think it would be a great idea to see those VCs scrambling to their knees to get featured on VCCrunch. :-)

  • Evan is one of the greatest young minds in Silicon Valley today. His list of accomplishments speaks for itself. His in depth knowedge of technology, and his connections around the valley are well documented. Grabbing Evan will prove to be a major coup for Shasta. In a few years, he will be standing amongst the greats like Moritz and Doerr.

  • Stop kissing ass Michael!!! I thought you had all the Valley VC’s in your back pocket. Guess not…

  • “In a few years, he will be standing amongst the greats like Moritz and Doerr.”

WOW. Give him a few more years and maybe he’ll run for the white house. Exactly my point: you guys need to quit drinking your own kool-aid and stop believing that writing product requirements at eBay and now reviewing business plans in a nice office building makes you the next Steve Jobs.

As far as this being “news” on TechCrunch, I agree what others are saying here. There is a back story but frankly I couldn’t care less. If you believe TechCrunch to be unbiased you really don’t understand media.

  • When you have a company managing funds of $460 million, expanding one’s team for efficiency and effectiveness is sometimes necessary.
