I've heard that Matt Ivester is a huge anti-semite. His statements of freedom of speech are to mask his true intentions of being a bigot. Anyone who does business with him or comes into contact with him should know that he is scumbag.

I feel that shows like Gossip Girl and, actually, the new Beverly Hills 90210 (that one girl has a blog where she rips people apart) are making stuff like this commonplace. However, the description of JuicyCampus is still funny:

"Students can discuss the topics that matter to them most in a manner they deem appropriate."

It's like the founder has never actually met a college kid. Is ANYTHING they ever deem appropriate actually appropriate? And do most of the topics that matter to them actually matter?

the difference is that http://collegeacb.com is actually a good, useful site. It's not very popular right now, but those that use it think much more positively of it than sites like juicycampus.

*yawns* People actually care about unsubstantiated rumors that anonymous people start online?

If anything this isn't a failure on Juicy Campus's part, it's a sign that the college students of America (a.k.a. our future leaders of business and industry) are weak, shallow, and are nothing but a bunch of worthless sheep that believe anything they read.

I'd say it's a failing on the part of the colleges, the parents, and the students themselves. They need to grow up and get over it.

The site does not need to be shut down and what would it even be sued for? The content was made by an anonymous third party, I don't think they can be held liable for that. Unless the anon 3rd party was uploading child porn to their servers. That could be a legitimate offense. Everything is else is bored kids whining and crying about their ruined reputations. Cry me a river.

I have no sympathy for those that allow themselves to be victims.

I'd like to jump into the conversation here to discuss a different alternative to Juicy Campus. I think the malicious intent of the site, while initially appealing and as some have mentioned 'sexy', in the end really does no service to students.

If Yelp was a forum for people to just spout out the horrible traits of restaurant owners by name, I think it wouldn't be the success it is now.

Therefore, I think sites such as Yollege provide a much better alternative for college students. They can vent, but also voice their opinions on what makes their college lives fun and exciting.
( I do run Yollege.com)

http://www.yollege.com

We'll see what the ultimate outcome will be on JC, but I hope that students will realize that the exact reason the site is 'fun' can turn on them at any moment. I don't think that's the type of relationship students want with a website.

There are several issues here: a) The fact someone is capable of producing such a site - without regard for the consequences - shows that society in the USA has now sunk as low as the UK on the "Lord of The Flies" scale. That is, people who are too young to pocess moral judgement have too much power. b) How is it that libel and other laws even allow such a site? And that brings me on to part c) Perhaps as with some other aspects of business and life, one should need a license to publish a web site? (The flaw with this would be that a government could of course us said law to censor specific information.) Anyway, I look forward to the first lawsuit against this site and the poster of any information that causes offence to any innocent Americans. And congrats to TechCrunch for giving such pap space. My respect for TechCrunch just bombed.

Perhaps anonymity gets you dissing high.. but when it is confined to a mobile 3rd screen, this phenomena turns into drama, humor, or dark wit, which has been evidenced in this website
