Because that dead broadcast tv model is what supplies 95% of what made (and still makes) Youtube financially viable, and which provides the most popular television shows in the world.

Let’s put it another way: online video exists *because* of broadcast tv, not in spite of it.

There’s a roundabout method that allows you to view webpages (IE) through VMC, and which thus allows you to view anything that IE supports. I don’t remember what the instructions are, but you should be able to Google for them.

Hulu is not HD and as time goes on compression will reduce file sizes and bandwidth consumption.

Unfortunately the average person (the market) will not understand this…thus slowing down the adoption of online video

These ISPs NEED to come up with something (advertise Hulu say with 250 gigs you can stream 24/7 hours of Hulu content) …i feel their actions are necessary from an economical standpoint, but also capping is anti-competitive… unless they disclose how much you can stream on a Hulu or TheWB each month. Thus the uninformed will not shy away from online video as a cable TV substitute.

As it stands now the future water cooler talk I dont think bodes well for online video, due to capping.

Re BBC content. I use tvpc.com for some (not all) UK streams. And for some reason, here in the UK, I can see hulu content when viewed on the tvpc.com site. Not sure how this is working though.

I love my unlimited internet, but the caps are preemptive and necessary. As video on the web becomes mainstream (I’m taking professional content – not YouTube), the pipes are going to get flooded. The ISPs still have no distribution system in place to handle the new traffic, and if they don’t impose caps now, they will all be going out of business in 2-5 years. The caps give them some breathing room while they work on upgrades and creating a new distribution system. I always thought BitTorrent would save the world, but it looks like the ISPs don’t want to play ball. IMO, given our current tech, the only way video can be affordably distributed across the web on a large scale is with BT. Only time will tell.

I think it’s the only time of year before the end of the quarter where they can possibly boost numbers enough to beat YouTube’s domestic revenues. I think it is entirely possible they might. tinycrunch.com polling on this.

The International Rights issue even effected Hulu Itself ,The Chinese developers of Hulu had to ask NBC and FOX special permission to be able to watch HULU in the HULU office in Beijing which they where originally not given access too .
