Hulu on Tuesday announced that it has launched its Fall Premiere Lineup, which over the next seven weeks, will be the place to find season premieres of Prison Break, Bones, House, Heroes, The Office and 30 Rock.
To build up the hype around new shows or those in their second season, Hulu will also debut the first episode of Knight Rider, Lipstick Jungle, Chuck and Life, one week before they air on broadcast television.
The decision to debut shows on Hulu first is an interesting one. For years, TV studios were loath to even put television shows on the Web and most wanted to maintain the same business model they had clung to for years. But now that they’ve realized there is money to be made online, the studios are embracing the Web like never before.

Dammit Hulu, hurry up on getting streaming rights to Australia.
So how many HD shows/movies can I stream before reaching my 250g cap imposed by Comcast?
<3 Hulu
Now that is comedy!
I love my unlimited internet, but the caps are preemptive and necessary. As video on the web becomes mainstream (I’m taking professional content - not YouTube), the pipes are going to get flooded. The ISPs still have no distribution system in place to handle the new traffic, and if they don’t impose caps now, they will all be going out of business in 2-5 years. The caps give them some breathing room while they work on upgrades and creating a new distribution system. I always thought BitTorrent would save the world, but it looks like the ISPs don’t want to play ball. IMO, given our current tech, the only way video can be affordably distributed across the web on a large scale is with BT. Only time will tell.
Hulu is not HD and as time goes on compression will reduce file sizes and bandwidth consumption.
Unfortunately the average person (the market) will not understand this…thus slowing down the adoption of online video
These ISPs NEED to come up with something (advertise Hulu say with 250 gigs you can stream 24/7 hours of Hulu content) …i feel their actions are necessary from an economical standpoint, but also capping is anti-competitive… unless they disclose how much you can stream on a Hulu or TheWB each month. Thus the uninformed will not shy away from online video as a cable TV substitute.
As it stands now the future water cooler talk I dont think bodes well for online video, due to capping.
Will NBC and FOX (the dot coms) be doing the same? I would assume so…
This is a great way to build excitement, but users need to know that these shows are online! When does Hulu start advertising to the mass public?
I was skeptical when it first came out - now I am a believer. The commercials are short, and restricts views based on when the last commercial was shown. So switching shows, doesn’t always mean another commercial. I am a frequent returning visitor - meaning they did it right.

it annoys me so much i cant watch hulu in the UK
A friend of mine in London is similarly annoyed.
I’m not sure why they can’t run some house ads or something for non-US audiences, in order to determine viewership size to start selling in non-US advertisers. The alternative is BitTorrent, which shuts out the networks completely.
It’s a rights issue — plain and simple. Hulu has no issue giving you access to content; all of the rights holders (e.g., studios, producers, writers, etc) have a major problem with it.
This is one element of the entertainment industry that has yet to come to grips with digital. The windowing process of rights is what causes this.
Being in the entertainment business, I wouldn’t say that studios and networks see that there is money to be made online. If anything, the sentiment is the opposite. But they do realize that the internet and traditional television are converging and they’re wise to try to get involved early. Regardless of how long a market wants to take, it will eventually HAVE TO learn to migrate and adapt to the new platform (IP - the internet) and they are aware of this. An example of a market that has not adapted well or refuses to adapt is music.
Hulu is a great early example of what web TV needs to look like. But, most IPTV networks won’t get the same kind of syndication deals. Watch for ALOT of webisode and other content to come soon.
It is a fine idea, but I wonder if this decision — somewhat abrupt — isn’t a result of the disruption of the writer’s strike and the lack of new episodes forcing the networks to hulu. According to today’s NyPost:
“For one thing, it’s tough to promote a program without a pilot episode. ABC found that out the hard way with ‘Opportunity Knocks,’ a game show that is still being filmed.
“Absent footage from the actual show, the network shot a ‘conceptual’ teaser spot to give viewers an idea of what the series was about.”

I agree with you, Ron.
I think it’s the only time of year before the end of the quarter where they can possibly boost numbers enough to beat YouTube’s domestic revenues. I think it is entirely possible they might. tinycrunch.com polling on this.
How about giving me a plugin to watch it within Vista Media Center? That’s when I’ll be interested. I’m not interested in watching TV on my 15 inch screen unless I’m traveling. If I’m at home, I’ll take the 57″ thank you.
There’s a roundabout method that allows you to view webpages (IE) through VMC, and which thus allows you to view anything that IE supports. I don’t remember what the instructions are, but you should be able to Google for them.
fuck hulu i live in australia and have had fucking account set up since they were in pb and havent even been able to use it, why the f would they let me do that then say i cant watch stuff mutha fuckers
we feel your pain johnny. Hulu is pretty awesome.
Hulu is contractually prohibited from serving people who use the work “fuck” more than once in a single post.
That, and the *Australian* rights holders are preventing Hulu from showing it to you.
Fuck you bitch!
sorry for my language
Prison break? 30 rock? Bones?
YAWN
Office and House, ok, that’s decent. But bring on the titans of “Always Sunny in Philadelphia”, “Breaking Bad”, and “The Riches”!
I’m PSYCHED for the new Always Sunny episodes.
I’m enjoying Hulu. As for the IP filtering, that’s standard licensing issues: it’s the same reason users in the U.S. can’t use Zattoo and can’t watch most of the BBC’s online video. It’s nice to see this sort of thing privileging U.S. users for once.
The International Rights issue even effected Hulu Itself ,The Chinese developers of Hulu had to ask NBC and FOX special permission to be able to watch HULU in the HULU office in Beijing which they where originally not given access too .
This could be Hulu’s attempt to beat YouTube’s domestic profits for this year. Advertisers will want all over this. tinycrunch.com
Re BBC content. I use tvpc.com for some (not all) UK streams. And for some reason, here in the UK, I can see hulu content when viewed on the tvpc.com site. Not sure how this is working though.
Nice Work

Why is hulu trying to keep the dead broadcast tv model alive by launching a fall schedule?
Because that dead broadcast tv model is what supplies 95% of what made (and still makes) Youtube financially viable, and which provides the most popular television shows in the world.
Let’s put it another way: online video exists *because* of broadcast tv, not in spite of it.
There is always a mirror (link ^)….quality decreases a bit but, you can watch outside of America, without commericals…
Hulu sucks, most of their shows are outdated. Cavenger’s better
