[...] Google recently announced a new netbook operating system to great fanfare: Chrome OS. It's named after Google's browser for a very good reason - all applications run within the browser framework, rather than being downloaded, installed and run atop the user's desktop operating system. Much of the subsequent analysis has revolved around the battle of the titans that is expected to occur now that Google has moved directly onto Microsoft's turf. [...]

Google is continuously focusing on instantaneous access/collaboration. With Wave and Chrome OS this process would be speeded up, and in time there would be no need for a Windows, Office, Sharepoint etc. Also google makes its money by ads, and 3 of ads is dependent on # of clicks, and # of clicks on # of page views. Search just contibutes a great deal to the # of page views that have google ads embedded. If you look at the sequence of steps a user takes to communicate with a friend on current technology, a lot of it is a hinderance, including native apps on windows. Google is rethinking this whole approach and removing the # of steps required. this is a killer blow to the future of microsoft and how they accumulate $s.

Google guys aren't talking seriously. They don't hate Windows at all. They're still supporting Windows because even at this day Google Chrome is only supported at Windows. Why they haven't released a ready-to-use version of that Browser for other OS like linux, BSD and Mac?

If google really hates windows, then they should keep unix-like OSes as their main priority; windows users could wait because they're still happy with Internet Exploter and MS Office.

And a webbrowser could't replace a complete OS. It will takes more time when a real webbrowser will take over all the services an applications that users need, without having dependance to a bunch of patched and unstable plugins like macromedia Flash or Shockwave.

If the current web technology were perfect , Browsers shouldn't have need of plugins because the web standards would be auto-sufficient for playing any kind of content.

The world probably wouldn't be phased much if any at all. There is Linux and Mac OS. I'm willing to go as far as to say that open source is the future and one day we will be without Microsoft Windows, but not necessarily Microsoft itself.
