After a few weeks, Elevator Pitch Friday is back with a vengeance. This week’s featured video comes to us from a self-funded, young male-oriented, yet-to-launch startup called BeTheBetterMan.com, with the pitch delivered by founder Eric Mayville.
The video’s a bit dark, but it’s enthusiastically delivered and straight-forward. Here’s the pitch:
As Eric describes further in the comments of the pitch:
…the options for challenges are endless as they can be user created or supplied by someone like the staff at Be The Better Man, some examples would include who can do the best Christopher Walken impression? Do you have the most bad ass beerpong table? What is the best song for the summer?
Now a Christopher Walken impersonator contest — that’s something I’d like the internet to do right. When they launch this fall, BeTheBetterMan.com faces some tough competition in their space, including the star-backed iBeatYou and video-focused Strutta.
Let us know what you think of this pitch in the comments.

Eh, maybe this is a niche thing. I did work with a guy who loved these kind of videos but I don’t see it being “the next big thing”… IMHO
This is what I think of your video man:

and also
Where Are The Black Tech Bloggers?

Now that’s talent.
Holy crap, dude. That’s painful.
Who’s he going to license this out to?
It’s not like MySpace is gonna buy it. Social networks that could be potential takers to integrate something like that would build their own. Or am I missing something?
what vc would touch this site with a ten foot pole?
I’m pretty sure this could be replicated in Facebook in about 3 days of coding.
Too bad your domain name cuts out half your audience. E for effort, T for nice Try.
Great concept. I have to agree about the name, since it cuts out the other half. But I’m really loving the styling of the Identity. I only wish they had extended the creative juices a bit and broken the “better man” out of that classic bathroom sign. Either way, looks like a great effort and a great little concept. Best of luck! – Sabet
Why is everybody talking about the name cutting out half the audience as a big deal? Couldn’t they just replicate the code for woman and have two different sites? Then create a 3rd site which merges the two. Sometimes it is nice to have a place for just the guys. Woman complicate things when it comes to men. I imagine woman would say the same thing.
Also there are a lot of men in this world. Enough to make a website profitable.
I like the comment about splitting the site and having 2 sites – but let’s get back to the main point.
Is this viable over time?
I disagree. I think it can get some traffic. But the kind of traffic that will get them out of the gravitational pull of the internet dead? I don’t think so.
Don’t get me wrong cool concept – but I have about 2-3 of these ideas a day but never go get money to fund them.
Black Tech blogger right here…..Flatbush’s finest is back at it…
Storming states and still all over the place!!!

Good pitch. Too bad the website is not up yet, all those clicks being wasted…
Thanks for all the comments so far. We are going to be opening up publicly in a few days. For the mean time if you want to see how the platform works, check out this walk-through…

“Unique and exciting revenue streams”
1. Licensing isn’t unique nor exciting
2. Neither is advertising
Maybe should have gone with some different adjectives there, or omitted that part altogether. Otherwise interesting enough pitch.
Jesse, thanks for the comment, though those aren’t the two ideas we have for users nor are they the key revenue models for BTBM. When we release I believe you will see what we are talking about.
I agree with Jeff your website name isn’t appealing to everyone…

Narrciicism can only go so far…! How about a competition for creating something helpful for caregivers or older people in their homes?

thats nice
Christ, the domain name works. Modal female behavior is not likely to use a site like this regardless of the name. The nature of the site cuts out half the audience, and I am fine with that. Focus on target group and give them what they want.
The idea is working in a competitive landscape. However, they are offering brands an interesting way to interact with consumers, so that is a leg up on other sites. It is not just advertising. Lastly, I like that these guys are funding it out of pocket. What need to they have for VC? If they scale as their traffic grows then they will have a better product in the long-run as well as a better understanding of the audience.
