  • Because I will party so hard at night and give the ladies at the conference some lovin every night!

  • I am an enthusiast who started learning the development(s) of mobile world which became pretty rapid these days. I started developing application(s) for iphone and want to see the prospect(s) in android platform which is going to forge in couple of month(s). If everything goes well, I want to be part of silicon valley gang with my own startup in mobile area.So I am planning to get complete exposure and contact(s) in this mobiel world

  • Been bootstrapping building a blog & ad network targeting the Oprah crowd. Mobile is a key part of our plan as more women rely on their cells. Been eating $4 Pho for a long time for the dream, so this grateful entrepreneur would be so appreciative!

  • I’d love to attend this conference. I work for a leading mobile browsing company now, and will finish up on September 15th, just days before the conference. I am leaving to start a mobile company with a business partner. I don’t have the money to attend as I am bootstrapping this company for the immediate future. I think I could also add some interesting perspective for other attendees.

  • GigaOM is also offering a 10% discount to readers who don’t want to chance not getting the free ticket. The discount code is TECHCRUNCH and here’s the registration link - http://mobilize.eventbrite.com.....TECHCRUNCH

  • Wow, I would love to attend this conference. I started working about nine years ago in wireless technology and after taking some time off am now starting to get back in. Funding my own venture at the moment, so 600$ is a lot of pizza and beer. This would be a great kick-start!

  • I have an idea which would use mobile GIS to facilitate mass use of public transportation. This concept is very early in its development stages, but going to this conference would help me to determine if it would be feasible and connect with interested parties. The reason for me not being able to afford this conference is my crippling student loan debt.

    • Cameron Christoffers - August 27th, 2008 at 5:00 pm PDT

Winner. First person to actually discuss an idea

      • Cameron, I don’t know whether you are part of techcrunch or Just a fun reply to my message. I am pretty enthusiastically waiting for the result(s) :) and didn’t see any email or result(s) from techcrunch

      • Hey Cameron thanks for picking my entry! I’m not sure if you tried to email me details of getting the ticket, but if you did gmail spam filter picked it off. can you email me anything i may need in order to get the ticket at vidya.chowdary (at) gmail -dot- com? I am really waiting for the ticket at the conference is on this friday

        Thanks again! Vidya

  • Techcrunch,

I am a young entrepreneur developing a mobile service with a small team–I’d love to attend Mobilize, it would be very useful for myself & my team, and right now, we can’t afford a ticket ourselves. The timing of this conference is perfect for us to begin approaching potential investors with a working prototype. Please consider!

    • Seems like it’s going to be tough to pick who gets these tickets!

I’d just like to add that looking at the schedule for Mobilize, several of the panels and the lunch workshop will be extremely valuable for us. We are soon shifting into high gear to raise funding, so the VC panel should be informative, and we’re going to be working on the second iteration of our prototype, so the “components of a good mobile user experience” panel will be extremely relevant as well.

If at all possible, please take a chance on us. We’ll definitely remember your help and be grateful for the opportunity to attend.

  • I have no money, but want to impress Julia Allison.

  • Building a very simple globally scalable mobile app for managing invites. Would like to connect with fellow entrepreneurs at the event but we are tight on budget man…would really appreciate an invite. If not, thanks for the offer and a shout out to all my TechCrunch homies and fellow entrepreneurs attending the event. Mobilize your application! That’s the future!

  • I’d love to attend this conference but I won’t because I live in PA. Pick me if you want to screw over other readers by wasting one of the free tickets. I might sell it on ebay, or maybe I will just take a picture of it, flaunt it, and then throw it away.

  • I have a super cool title (trendspotter) and work for a cutting-edge, interactive agency that will provide instant credibility to the conference. We plan on focusing tons of resources in mobile iniatives in the near future for all of our fancy clients as well as looking into some venture opportunities. And most importantly we buy a lot of ad space on GigaOm and probably TechCrunch too. So feel free to use me as bait to sell more tickets to sales people. Thanks for the consideration!

    • Oh yeah…I fall conveniently in the category of “not important enough to go to conferences on the company dime” but “important enough for you to talk to me.”

  • Being self-funded makes it very hard to afford entry into the conference let alone the plane ticket from Mike’s least favourite part of the world (Canada, duh, I spelled favourite with a u! Ha.).

My startup is doing some very targeted, market specific mobile applications and platforms focused on national chains who wouldn’t have normally entered into the mobile market.

  • I entered my company to be selected to TC50. Did not make it. I entered my company to the Mobilize 08 launchpad & did not make it. Seems to me that Silicon Valley is ignoring NY area companies. Are they? I dont think so.

Going to Mobilize 08 will give us the opportunity to meet the right individuals who will actually understand what we are trying to do in the mobile arena. We are creating a new disruptive way to provide a unique method for people to stay connected, without the overload of existing fragmented applications. We have a WM beta product and a portal that has been built. We are working on the other components of our eco-system (BB, iPhone and Desktop component) which we would have had ready by TechCrunch50 so that we could have announced to the public at TC50.

I’d rather spend $ 600 on hiring some elance’r to complete the portal spruce up. We are 3 people working full time on this project for the last year drawing no salaries and investing our own savings. If I did get a ticket to Mobilize08, I would use my airline miles to travel there, stay with friends, attend the event, get my necessary PR and who knows - get funded. All without having spent a dime. I am constantly thinking about expenses and leveraging every opportunity so that future investors and stakeholders understand our commitment to delivering great products on a budget.

So - you give me those tickets and in exchange I will give you guys a demo of our new products and also will allow TC to distribute our invite codes and who knows maybe even consider your offer of an investment in our company. Overall I think this is a Win-Win situation.

  • If you’re lady, you might want to avoid talking to anyone calling themselves ‘ken’ at this event.

  • silicon valley dropout - August 26th, 2008 at 12:56 pm PDT

i am a dropout from the valley.

  • Send me because:

    1) I will gladly pimp and distribute any techcrunch schwag you’d like at the conference and any after parties. I’ll also qik any of the conference you like and conduct interviews with attendees for TC. I’d even write the event up for you guys if you wanted. Think of it like having an extra intern for a day.

    2) I’m extremely interested in the space as the owner of a bootstrapped SMS app that is fusing the conversations over the phone with those that take place online. This would be a great spot to meet the people that define the space and the future of the industry - which we hope to be a part of.

    • Cameron Christoffers - August 27th, 2008 at 5:07 pm PDT

      Winner.

      • Hey Cameron thanks for picking my entry! I’m not sure if you tried to email me details of getting the ticket, but if you did gmail spam filter picked it off. can you email me anything i may need in order to get the ticket at morganb (at) gmail -dot- com?

        Thanks again! Morgan

  • I am a student from Oxford, UK. I will be around in Silicon Valley for TechCrunch (attending TC50 on student ticket) during that time. Would love to hear about latest developments in mobile technology. I need to extend my trip for one more week after confirmation.

  • Because bootstrapping is endangering my social skills, and I’ll write Techcrunch on my forehead in green magic marker.

  • Because bootstrapping is endangering my social skills, and I’ll write Techcrunch on my forehead in green magic marker.

  • Roses are Red, Violets are Blue
I love stuff for free, cause I’m a Jew.

    The end.

  • …Because I’m Fabulous.

  • As former attendee of Structure08, Om Malik work is really interesting, there is surely a lot to expect from Mobilize speakers ans roundtable
As former mobile guy in Europe, I expect from US actors to shake this frozen industry
    So what are the news?

  • I am a current student at UMich Ann Arbor specializing in ubiquitous computing and incentive centered design, and a budding entrepreneur, and I feel that attending the conference will help broaden my horizons with respect to the opportunities the mobile world has on offer. I cannot afford the registration fee because I am still a student, and have trouble paying up my tuition on time.

  • Because I am gonna come from Canada and and apologize to every tech crunch staff member on behalf of retards in our country that give us a bad name.

  • I am arguing for myself because:
I’ve built one of the most innovative sites (in its vertical) with zero funding and all bootstrapped.

We have the background and have demonstrated our ability to create great and innovative products.

We’ll be doing the same when we launch some really awesome mobile applications. We are very frugal and attending this event would be impossible to justify for us. We’d rather put that money in marketing or improving our app. If we get this, when we launch our app, we’ll make sure to mention TC (not that it needs any mentioning) for helping out :)

  • There are 3 Billion reasons why I want to attend~

    Dennis

  • Reference: why they must be there, yet can’t afford to pay for it themselves..

You are joking right? You want people to explain why they can’t AFFORD to pay for something? You want them to publicly display their financial status or lack thereof for everyone here and on google and other search engines to pick up and cache for other people, all strangers to see and read. That’s crass. Give your readers and participators a decent break here!

How about just let people explain why it’s important they be there as part of the contest Michael, instead of asking them to publicly declare poverty.

    Just a thought.

  • If you want to be an industry leading startup, you have to gauge the competition and butt heads with the big-wigs.

Our startup focuses on geo-targeted applications. After releasing our first application for the iPhone, we saw huge growth and huge opportunities in the mobile market. However releasing a free application doesn’t get you any closer to Mobilize. If selected to attend Mobilize, it would give us a better sense of the future for mobile opportunities.

  • Working on making life much easier for consumers in digital coupons space so badly need to meet people to make contacts.. this event will help…

  • Mobilize would be s a great networking & recruiting ground for the mobile dating concept I am exploring. My sponsor (girlfriend) while otherwise supportive of the idea(!) does not have the funds to cover the conference fee.

  • I’m business school student from Milan (Italy) who is obsessed with mobile tech. As I am willing to start up, I think that this convention would be the perfect opportunity to meet first-class technicians and engeniers in the field.

If you want somebody crazy enough and passionate for this business… pick me.

  • I need to be there because:

    1) I live in Italy but fortunately I’ll be in the Bay Area from Sept 13th to Sept 30th…. so it’s a great occasion.

    2) It’s gonna be a great conference and I don’t want to miss it

    3) You Michael never covered any of my company’s services on Techcrunch, so this is the minimum you can do for me!!! :-)

    Ciao

    Luca

  • College kid from eastern Idaho just dropped the day job to start a mobile app development studio with two friends. We’ve got iPhones, WiMax, and a lot of questions to be answered at the conference.

We have a ferocious appetite for TechCrunch/GigaOM/related news online - but frankly don’t have many opportunities to experience it in person.

Take a chance on us. We won’t disappoint and we won’t forget the favor.

  • Michael Arrington & Co.:

Just days ago, walking around campus the day before classes began, I decided *not* to enter a PhD program *nor* accept a late-breaking offer to work at Microsoft. I decided, instead, to pursue my dream of launching a start-up with a partner instead.

After finishing a Computer Science Masters program at Brown in May cash flow is constrained while seeking funding. Without your sponsorship we cannot justify the expense of conference fees on top of plane flights from the Research Triangle Park in North Carolina.

Our past experience and start-up focus will be in the on-line collaboration space, a space where mobile plays an increasingly crucial role. We would love to attend Mobilize 08 to begin the process of building relationships with the diverse set of players in the field while simultaneously obtaining a fresh, inside perspective on emerging mobile technologies.

    Best,

    Kris Jordan

  • Tomorrow is my birthday :)

  • its damn boring to work in office when others are bring cool apps and phones :( Let me go to mobilize’08 and network with the cool guys. While most others have thought of their cool thingy, i need to yet shape my invention, thats why I deserve more to mobilize’08 my thoughts !

  • I am bootstrapping/incubating 3 companies in web/mobile space, which all have great teams and will be candidates for next year’s TechCrunch50 event. One of them, a mobile web focused venture, has product in alpha soon after Mobilize, so after serious consideration, I decided that it is too risky to nominate for presenting company. I would still love to be there and get prepped for the prime time. So please help a true, passionate entrepreneur out here!

  • As a one man startup that recently moved from an RV to San Francisco I find it hard to justify $600 for a one day event. However the amount of research time saved to get the latest scoop on “the mobile browser as an OS for mobile apps” might save me almost as much time as porting my WM location-aware client to both the iPhone and Android.

  • I work for a large enterprise who don’t fathom the power of mobile computing. This is my chance to change their opinion.

  • wheee! I am publicly declaring poverty as a university student who just got royally screwed with financial aid this coming year.

In other news, I’ve been studying the mobile space all summer as an intern and have been thus convinced to pursue a CS co-term instead of becoming an economics drone. Armed with such devices (and a free mobilize ticket), I can help build a better tomorrow. I fancy handheld freedom for us and our posterity. I envision a revolutionary world where mobile web reigns supreme. I imagine something of the likes of Japan. Help me help us!

And if I don’t get a ticket, at the very least offer me a tour of the techcrunch office.

    Thank you kindly -

  • We are a SF based startup in the social applications space, started by 3 recent grads from Stanford with huge tuition loans to pay ;( . As we bootstrapped the company, we cannot afford $600 for a conference, as cash is tight.

In the last few months we started to learn more and more about the mobile application space, and feel we can take our expertise in social games to the mobile world - but need to learn much more about it. We want to attend to learn about the trend in the space, and to meet the right people who can help us with this transition from web to mobile.

Also, I am a big TechCrunch fan ;)

  • I need these tickets, Mike. Without them, I guess you can say I’m immobilized.

  • I saw Willy Wonka like 100 times. It would make my year to get a golden ticket! I will put it to good use and be diligent in my research and launch a mobile application that will rid calories from chocolate. Okay what we are is a small two person team launching a mobile application for iPhones. We have become Apple Developers and are looking at other mobile applications to saturate our product with! I have a need for two tickets so maybe if I get one for free I will buy one so it would be like you sold a ticket to someone who couldn’t make it unless you gave them (one)…incentive…like a comp from Vegas!

Well Thanks for the consideration and by the looks of this there are a lot of people out there who sound deserving. Tough choices for you!

  • I want to attend this event just to make sure my mobile solution is not just YAMA

    Yet Another Mobile App

Also I want to understand more clearly what kind of services really make sense so that companies do not reinvent the wheel

  • I had this dream last night, in which Mike appeared as Santa Claus and gave me a ticket to Mobilize 08. The next thing I know, I am at Mobilize wearing a TC t-shirt and shouting Mike, Mike, Mike!! Whoa, was it just a dream??

  • Lets see..
My story goes as follows. I got into the startup scene in highschool, and made a very nice amount as a high school student. I ended up hiring programmers (instead of me doing it), and incorporating my own company in high school. Then I started college, and didn’t find time to work on my company/websites, and ended up selling it all off, so I wouldn’t kill the properties entirely. Since then, I’ve been reading alot more on starting a solid startup, and understanding what other players in the market are. Now, I’m finishing up college, and am really excited about getting started.
I’ve been an avid TechCrunch reader for a while now… not sure how long, but close to a year, and would LOVE to get to go to this! It would definitely help me get insight into the business, and hopefully lay the framework guidance for me to get going myself.
    Thanks

  • Now this is a story, all about how - my lucky ass got picked, to go downtown.
I’d like to take a minute, I hope your reading out loud – I’ll tell how I got chosen, out of this talented crowd.
It was a Tuesday afternoon, plain as old any day – just consuming TechCrunch media, using mental cache.
Then I came across a post, it had comments galore – all these people whoring out just to build some rapport.
I started reading their posts, some were truly divine – I shouldn’t waste my time, but damn these idle hands of mine.
My hands reached for the keys, and then my fingers did the talkin – I was somewhat surprised, when I saw who they were mockin (hint: not Christopher Walken).
“My cash is bootstrapping shoes, my funds are incubating eggs – I will impress the ladies, I will drink 20 kegs”
You went to college where? What a great alma mater! – Life must be great when you’re a #$@%$ trendspotter.
“My new app is the best, if I could only spread its rumor” – but who wants to read a comment, without at least a teensy eeensy weensie bit of humor?

  • Hmm. $600 to attend a mediocre conference organised by a mediocre blogger. I think I’ll pass.
