Thanks for the great post. We really want to extend our platform and hope to continually improve this initial API. We're also super excited to be working with TweetDeck, Blippr and Phreadz. Hit us up with ideas, thoughts or questions - info@12seconds.tv.
@Jono - I think you make a great point. We really feel like the imposed limitation inspires creativity and often makes the content better for the person viewing.

Twitter is popular precisely because everyone is limited to a easily readable update. If you want to record a longer video, use YouTube.

Is it just me or is there a trend as of late of business models based mainly on limiting users?

It used to be that services would promote themselves as offering more (e.g. increased video length, increased message length, increased session length) but as of late businesses seem to be promoting themselves on the fact that they limit these things.

The demand for such services no doubt stems from the fact that people are time poor now days, however wouldn't it be great to have more flexibility and let users choose their own cut offs?

For example, let users choose to only view videos under 20 seconds in length or let users choose to only see reviews under 50 words in length.

I was fortunate enough to be one of 12seconds.tv's first 1200 users, and I can say it's instantaneously addictive for both entertainment and as a communication / social networking tool for friends and family. I think there is a lot of different directions 12seconds can go as it's functionality seems to fulfill a variety of functions for me (ie: video blog, a replacement for email, IM, the need for short skype video chats, etc). Im a fan, but I'm curious to see where this ride takes us.

It's great to hear 12seconds.tv is making fast progress. I've been waiting for a twitter client to be able to play 12seconds.tv videos since I started using the service and I'm really looking forward to what sort of partnerships will be formed or expanded when the API allows opens up write access. Should be interesting to see Adobe AIR apps that allow you to quickly record and post to 12seconds.tv. Keep up the good work everyone! Oh and Sol, where's my iPhone app? ;)

This is great news! Their simple to use API made it very easy for me add 12Seconds.tv support to our Phreadz users.

Phreadz is a 'Social Multimedia Conversation Network' which lets members thread conversations together by recording or uploading a video in the browser, sharing posts from YouTube, Blip.tv, Qik, Seesmic, Vimeo, Viddler, Flickr (photos too!) even presentations from SlideShare and now pulling in a post from 12Seconds.tv!

Great work guys! :) This is METAMEDIA!

12seconds.tv is dangerous. What?!? Yes, I said dangerous. I have noted before that twitter should grab it now. This idea will help shape the future of social blogging. People constantly talk about why twitter isn't "mainstream". The smarter crowd talk about what is "missing." 3G rolling out everywhere + video recording capability on cell phones = ... well you might get the picture. It doesn't stop there... YouTube, MySpace, Facebook.. why? no? not the same "market". Don't be so near-sighted.

I'm not going to get elaborate or write a thesis to prove my point. I know exactly what 12seconds.tv can do to disrupt and help shape the future of the social web, but why ruin it?

Good coverage and find TC and good luck 12seconds.tv
