Without proof from the original document, there's really nothing more to see here. And I should add I'd be highly suspect of any document that appears at this point, short of someone finding a cache of the original page on DEMO's site somehow. Not to mention the part regarding the 1.893 words; having 1,893 words in common with a post on a similar subject doesn't raise eyebrows in my book. Now, if they stated there were 151 direct phrases or sentences copied that would be a different story...

This is an odd move but, honestly, things took a nasty turn when you scheduled your event at the same time as there's and everybody sees that.

The accusations were made in Demo’s name, from a former partner of the event.

who last worked it in 1996. "In demo's name"? Huh? Since I posted on techcrunch does that make me speak for techcrunch in "their name"?

All this bitching and bickering over insignificance aside: HOW MUCH DID DEMO CHARGE FOR ATTENDING THEIR EVENT. The registration fee for TechCrunch50 is $3000 pers person and $145 for students which is HARDLY free, so...

Is this another hype and BS to generated cash?!!!

What... are you kidding me? She sent a private email, Arrington posts it here with an apparent lack of ability to determine the difference between her and DEMO, and you accuse HER of handling it badly?

This whole thing has left an awful taste in my mouth regarding TechCrunch. While there's an obvious slant towards companies that are either in Silicon Valley, or worship at the Temple of Arrington, I used to have the ability to keep the bile down long enough to read.

While I haven't done any of my own digging to decide whether or not there was any plagiarism, I couldn't care less at this point. Once again, we're subjected to the note passing and sand box bullying you find in schoolyards around the world. Drama at it's worst.

I hadn't planned on visiting for either TC50 or DEMO08. However, I would choose the latter having seen this mess.

Never mind about Debbie McAllister...she's a real space cadet. She tells stories of being BF with the Rolling Stones and other 60's bands. She's full of those kinds of stories that are full of hot air. She finally got her 15 minutes of fame..thanks to Jason.

So you submitted it to TurnItIn??? aaaaaah are you nuts?

OK, so now it's permanently in the plagiarism database (attributed to you, most likely), so if Jason submits it, it will show up 100% plagiarized.

Consider this:
Imagine a service making their money off the backs of students, and compiling a huge database of (blackmail) material to hold forever.

Imagine a service that approaches schools with this proposition - "We've collected millions of academic papers on millions of topics - You can either PAY for our service of 'protecting' you from plagiarists, or your students will have access to a database of papers, accessible on the web to the clever student, that we have collected over the years."

Pay-for-protection scheme? Not a good business model!

As Dali said, any press is good press, and bad press is better. (sigh) A non-story, but nice reaction. I'm so incensed! I can't believe it! A caricature of "The Scream" would be a nice editorial cartoon of this entire post/response.

If you claim to have been punched in the face but can't show so much as a bruise, you'll rightly get laughed out of the police station. (Even a slap will leave a mark.) If you claim to have been plagiarised but can't produce your original, that's an equally worthless accusation.

Jason's points aren't rocket science, but he offers them in a style uniquely his own. Those of us who've been in this business long enough know these basic tips. I use these all the time to coach clients in presenting their companies. Does this make me a plagiarist?

Perhaps this is why Ms. McAllister feels she can threaten the "p" word, but seriously, the ideas/pointers are not new. How she handled this quite badly and she does a great disservice to DEMO. The DEMO camp is not making these accusations but someone who used to be associated with them.

This whole bruhaha (noise) about plagiarizing advice is quite amusing. I think it is all a promotional strategy for DEMO (which i have never heard of until TechCrunch promoted them), reminds me of the accusation from Clinton that Obama plagiarized a speech of his adviser (A speech where he quoted Quotes of Kennedy, Martin Luther and others). Simply put, it is all ridiculous but effective. DEMO has succeed in driving traffic to their site. Good One!

Just an observation: I have not heard of any African American/Black founder of a groundbreaking internet company( From Google to Maholo, Facebook to Friendster). As a Nigerian hoping to "conquer" silicon valley someday, I am just hoping there isn't any bias.

Thank you
