The Rise and Fall of Twitter
by John Biggs on August 8, 2008

At the risk of offending some of you, I am posting this parody video created by Crunchgear’s Nicholas Deleon and his brother Gabriel. Just remember, it’s not about Hitler. It’s about Twitter.

Twittler?

Wait till he finds out about Scrabulous getting pulled.

Twittler? Hmmm… there a few copies of this video going around, each with different subtitles. I guess it’s Twittler meme.

That video was amazing, hahaha! I remember seeing this movie a couple of years ago, his expressions are memorable.

Do you think Twitter is going to make it over the wall? or is it going to have the same fate as Friendster? sad, Asian market success.

hahaha thats funny. I can speak German and their really saying everyone go to http://www.ballbagger.com for Sexy Times. lol

Seriously though… awesome video. Must have taken some work, well done Nicholas .

Definitely agree that it’s hilarious. lol this is too funny.

spamming twat f*ck off

weird how you thought enough to use an * in the F word but the T word didn’t bother you quite as much.

twat? i cunt hear you

@jakatak - twat is a lot more offensive in the US than in the UK. No idea where either of you are from, just sayin’

What exactly is so good about those links?

One from a guy who is such an idiot as to lose a gorgeous girlfriend and then confirm his stupidity by posting pictures of her that does nothing but satisfy his own ego, and the other just mindless regurgitated crap from around the internet.

Quit spamming.

absolutely brilliant…

Awesome. Must have taken ages! What film is it from?

der untergang

Actually it’s: Der Untergang ;)

Wow.. that was simply hilarious! Haha

It is absolutely first class, hilarious.
The film is ‘Downfall’, an excellent piece of film making.

This clip has been around for a while but with different versions.

lmaooooooooooooooooo

viral if you can edit it down to 30 sec

I really enjoyed that. Thank you!

Very funny, but harsh. BTW, the TC i-stage banner ad drove me nuts with its navigation clicking sounds during the entire video.

if you were using adblock with FF you’d never know it was there. :(

theres an ad?

Yeah… where are they?

I’m using Safari with popups set to be blocked in preferences. No add ons or plugins and no popups. :)

LMAO… Classic, classic parody. “My poor dog” and “why can’t they find a decent programmer?” are my favorite lines. :)

Sick, twisted, and brilliant. I wish I had thought of it.

Finally.

Now that you’ve invoked Godwin’s law, you can stop blogging about your damn Twitter fixation.

A bit too long - but GREAT job nonetheless! I love the part “What’s a CrunchGear?” LMAO! Thanks for sharing TC.

Well - I’m not that impressed and as a german I don’t think it’s that funny. I hate Hitler, don’t worry, but it’s just that I still understand what they are talking about.

I think if most of understood what he was saying we wouldn’t find it funny either but since we can’t that was awesome.

I think you’re missing the point. Americans are so arrogant and ignorant when it comes to cultural issues.

Why not make the same video and use someone painful in American history? why not use twitter and pull out a slave master or someone who killed black people?

You know, someone like one of the original founding fathers or something like that.

ha ha so funny your country was started by ignorant slave handlers. look at me laughing all the way to germany. ha ha :-|

kimgo please go over it, who is missing the point is you. this isn’t about germany nor USA, it’s just this movie sequence fitted the parody, nothing more.

Off-topic but speaking of arrogant and ignorant

Kimbo,
Why don’t you do some research on slavery history. Only 2-3% of the Africans, who were captured mostly by other Africans and handed over to European slave traders, arrived in North America. This was only slightly more than arrived in Europe and only a small fraction of those that arrived in South America, where they were used by Europeans to rape the natural resources.

And the video wasn’t about Hitler.

Maybe they could sing some Hasselhoff tunes to soothe you?

“Just remember, it’s not about Hitler. It’s about Twitter.”

It is from the movie Der Untergang. There is also a version floating around that pokes fun at Hitler getting his Xbox account banned. Worth watching.

thats awesome, best thing I’ve seen on TC in ages. more funny, more self deprecation.

Is twitter down again ?

But i have to say the video is a master piece.

Simply Superb.

Cheers, Nag

Heh ok that was damn funny. Loved the line about Facebook.

This Hitler movie is a huge meme. Most are very funny. Check YouTube.

That was originally done for the cowboys - quite a while back

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v.....re=related

funny stuff

This is hilarious. I would twitter it to all my followers…but…I might overload the servers….

Good laugh there.

Here is another version, which is my favorite - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UOqlH4YZBkM

(Hitler talking about the Cowboys last season)

Found this on Twitter. HA!

i must say that this is brilliant. Any new spoiler?

VIDEO OF THE YEAR!!!

That video has had so many versions. I might say my favorite is the one about Xbox and the red ring of death.

The comments about Michael and Face book - hilarious.

Watched it with the sound off - still very funny. Great satire.

Now that is something very creative! The best I’ve ever seen.

Hats off!

Cheers!

Pretty funny… How can you monetize this if it’s down all the time?? Anyone? Anyone?? (crickets)

I wonder if Dubya twitters about every time his administration sends someone to Gitmo - he’d be a more heavy user than Robert Scoble!

Great video by the way, even tyrants have a right to keep their followers updated. How else will tyranny spread?

what is with these amazingly ugly Google ads in the Techcrunch emails now? when did this start?

TC seems like a very well read, large audience site and newsletter.

why not hire a sales rep to close deals with companies who want to reach this desired audience? you get a better user experience with more relevant ads and TC makes more cash.

I think not, as I do not use twitter, not yet at least (but it sounded funny). But it is funny. I saw somewhere “The Rise and Fall of the Clones”. Interesting in deed.

I thought Mike is Jewish, if not, would that creative work not offended some Jewish users of Twitter?

That was freakin’ awesome.

Yes, we all know the meme has been around a while. However that doesn’t change the fact that this is one of the funniest things I’ve seen in weeks. Sad, perhaps…

just got the whaletail so I figured I would take a few minutes and watch. What a riot.

Sorry John, but if you had seen the entire movie, you wouldn’t have posted this. I saw it when it first came out and I have never left a cinema where the crowd was so quite after seeing this movie.

Can we have Hitler played by Arrington and it would both be funnier and more accurate.

You people are f*cking tasteless. You srsly think this is genius!? Those who fail to respect the past are doomed to repeat it. This is just one of the things you shouldn’t make light of. That said, I can see the humor in it… but really not something as an educated person should excuse.

Lighten up douche bag.

As a German studies scholar, I think this video is very amusing. You have to take into consideration the purpose of this creative work. And mute the volume.

As a matter of fact, there’s nothing wrong with poking fun at Hitler. He deserves all the poor treatment he can get.

I do suggest you all watch the full version of the film, Der Untergang (Downfall). It’s excellent.

And remove that spike up your a** in the process :)
