mloovi translates RSS feeds into 24 languages

Mloovi is a new tool which will translate RSS newsfeeds into 24 languages. It does this via Google Translate but the process is utterly seamless. You just put an RSS feed’s URL into the box and that’s it. The service is going to be of great use to bloggers (who can also download a widget to have their blog automatically translated). The translations are not perfect and images and formatting are removed, but they do give you the gist of the article. With the Olympics coming up it should be especially useful to track all the chatter from the myriad of nations attending. The basic service is free, as mloovi inserts one advert into the feed and a premium account which removes ads is planned.

Der Mundo, part of the Worldwide Lexicon project, does this and more. It’s a multilingual blogging and RSS translation tool with both human and machine translation.

If you want to host a natively multilingual blog, you can reserve a domain on Der Mundo, start posting, and your posts will be auto-translated, but can also be edited by your readers. People can also create translations to languages not covered well by machine translation services.

If you already have a blog, you can import its RSS feed, and use yoursite.dermundo.com as a translation hub/community for your site. See boingboing.dermundo.com for a good example of what a site looks like when translated via Der Mundo.

Google translate of my comment from French…judge by yourself:

“I got all the air to be another tool completely useless because they do nothing to translations of Google Translate … Anyway, it’s worth it to try!”

I tried to say that the problem is that Google translate doesn’t work for syntax and contextual meaning…only word to word (in some cases)

Information which would be hard to come by without an automatic translation. I can accept that the translation is not word perfect, but it will still help me learn the language.

Or, yes, I could pay 10 cents (USD) per word for a human translator to tell me that someone had their wallet stolen at the local train station.
