WidgetBucks Launches Skinnable Advertising Widgets
by Jason Kincaid on July 29, 2008

WidgetBucks, a widget-based advertising platform that has seen explosive growth since its launch last October, has implemented a new feature that allows users to created customized versions of their widgets. Users can choose from a selection of over 125 pre-generated designs, or they can upload their own art to modify their widget.

The ability to create branded widgets at no extra charge should appeal to a number of bloggers who have avoided using the ads because of their generic appearance. WidgetBucks continues to see impressive growth, with an estimated 1 billion impressions and 100 million unique visitors monthly.

Their site is totally broken on Firefox/MacOSX.

The reason it’s broken is because you are using adblock

If you whitelist the domain it will work

Yep. AdBlock it is. Thanks!

Works a-ok for me. Upgrade maybe?

The explosive growth probably accounts for why it can make your site so slow to load. I had to take it off the sites I was using it since it slowed down the initial page load and I watched bounces go way up.

Woww! Adsense in the widget form.. I like the widgets and skins..
Google? Grab this company ASAP..

Its good i like it,but you are right Dan Perlman i notice that it does make my site load slow.I’m waiting to see if it gets better before i take them down.

I used to have these widgets and yes, it takes a while to load. I have to take it down. (I think now they are loading a static image ad on initial load and then loading the widget). I would give them another try…

Jason - you might want to do some research about this company. Their growth is mostly fake and if you speak to real publishers you will notice how most pubs have removed their units.

You also linked to the techcrunch article about their deal with BlueLithium. http://www.techcrunch.com/2008.....d-marchex/

When we spoke to BlueLithium, they informed us that no such deal existed and that their lawyers are going to deal with Widgetbucks about issuing the false press release. You can confirm this yourself by calling BlueLithium.

WidgetBucks has been undergoing into several improvements lately. I’m so glad about it. I think it can topple down Adsense someday….But, I also love Adsense. LOL

Widgets man, whod’a thunk?

just opened their homepage and my CPU usage shoots to 67 % from 6 %, is this is the ‘killer’ app.

Good idea…it’s briliant !!!
