Amie Street, the indie music store that prices songs by their popularity, has pre-released The Walkmen’s new album You & Me three weeks before its scheduled launch date. The entire album is available for $5, with all proceeds going to the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center as part of the site’s “Download To Make a Difference” campaign. You can download the album here.
The pre-release is the first to come from Amie Street’s recent deal with The Orchard, a digital music distributor with a catalog of over 1 million songs and a number of big-name artists. The release underscores how much the industry stands to gain from novel indie stores like Amie Street, which are able to experiment with promotional programs like this - boosting banding exposure while helping out a good cause.

Sweet! Thanks Jason.
You can imagine my surprise when I read this post from room 902 of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center! I am an avid TechCrunch reader and my 4 year old son, Eli, is also treated here for a very rare pediatric cancer called Neuroblastoma (Stage IV). I think this is fantastic and I can personally attest that this is one of the greatest cancer centers in the world. We have met kids with Neuroblastoma from all over the world that have come here to be treated because it is one of the only places they were offered hope. Thanks for covering this story, I’m off to buy an album!

Hope you enjoy the album Aaron! I checked out Eli’s page, he looks like a real trooper. Give him my best.
the domain is difficult to remember … anyway, good site.

Good for independent artist, I think the site should be connected with big music companies and help independent artist to promote their album.
This just made my day! Amazing band. Fantastic cause. Thanks for the heads up! Downloading as I type this.
Never heard of Amie Street before. I guess it’s a totally great website. Gotta check it out!
I DL’d the new album for $5 from AmieStreet. Typically, I steal torrent music gratis, but - given the great band and great cause - I would have ponied up more than $5.00. I recommend it.
this is very interesting
