I saw this blog and sent getmyspaceplays.com an email asking how they do the promotion and thought i'd share their reply... "Hello, thanks for asking! Unfortunately, we were made aware of all the sites selling scripts, bots and artificial play generators online. Our service gets confused with them all the time as we purchased the GetMyspacePlays.com domain name and about 20 others related to online music promotion this year and are now learning that some of the domains were used by other companies in the past. Our service is not based on scripts, bots or spam of any nature. We use tools within social network sites like bulletins, etc to post links and reviews of artists' music across Myspace, Facebook, Imeem, Reverbnation, and about 6 other social network sites. We also use several targeted email newsletter channels where fans can opt-in and we send them regular updates on top artists to check out. Traditional marketing techniques. We have a promotion base of over 3.5 Million friends in our network - not including bands. Our system is not really revolutionary and quite similar to google adwords where an artist can purchase a designated amount of traffic once they reach their goals, our system stops. This doesn't mean an artist won't continue to get traffic from those links published which is why we set our promotion packages at a minimum - let's say 1,000+ Music plays - we'll guarantee 1,000 links go out - but we expect that the artist will get more than 1,000 unique visitors as links persist. It's really that simple, but the hard work was building up this network and that's where we feel the value is. An artist could spend a few years and take the time create accounts on all these social sites and build up their friends, but we recognized a demand from artists who actively tour, record and stay busy and had no time to do it. We are a professional service and have helped over 8500 artists with their promotion goals using the latest internet marketing techniques. Also check out www.ProjectBreakout.com another exciting new project we have. If you have any other questions, just let us know. Rick - GoBig!"

It would be nice if Indie hip hop and rap artist, and R&B artist can get a REAL chance that allows them to get noticed. Indie is the way to go. This could be another step for the indie and the end of major labels. ITunes def helped as you can distribute like the majors. Already the production side is available. I get tracks and beats from :

http://www.beatslocker.com

and they are totally hit major sound and great quality hip hop and rap beats. That was never available before....So that side is covered where as before only the major labels had access to these producers.. I already have airplay and Uni has contacted me! But in the end it would be nice to stay indie and keep the cash...all that remains to conquer is promo and marketing.. distribution is even covered .... when that happens majors are truly over!

As a fan of free streaming music, I have to say I love myspace music. I'm no MySpace Music expert but imagine the inflated playcount issue, while needing to be solved, isn't negatively impacting myspace music's business, nor will it have any bearing once the new content is streamed. I'm confident they're smart enough to log/report their royalty obligations very carefully - they'd go belly up over night, if they didn't. The user-facing playcounts that exist on the players are simply a toy to feed artist egos and give users a sense of what their favorite bands are up to, relative to others on the site. Hurry up and launch, already, I want to listen to more free music!

The indie artist is left out, Myspace got in Bed with the majors so they can get the content. The Indie artist needs to do things themselves and sell and promote there music independently with all the opportunities out there. And this is not only for artist but also for producers and beatmakers. Producers are selling there beats on sites like http://www.beatslocker.com and any artist can now get beats for a reasnable price, that before they could not as the Major labels owned them.

Myspace had a great thing going but they sold out long ago, letting plays get inflated, kissing up to the majors and throwing the indie artist to the side, even though Indies made myspace...

Myspace with all their dominance in terms of actual artists on the site, should be a strong player in this market. However, it depends how the service and store is done. If it is kinda a stand alone store, but then you can add widgets to your myspace page, then that might work. But wont be too different to what Snocap tried to do.

If there is an online store which is cheap, I think they can compete with Amazon MP3, but nothing more. Plus, they dont want to allow indie artists or unsigned artists into the site, they should sign with aggregator like us at http://www.routenote.com.
