Today at the f8 conference Benjamin Ling revealed that Facebook will be releasing a Cocoa framework for the iPhone that will allow application developers to integrate with Facebook Connect. The framework is expected to be released sometime in the fall, and will take the form of an SDK that can be used by developers of iPhone applications. Facebook Connect allows applications to integrate the facebook platform and the identity of users into their own applications.
Currently Facebook Connect is only available for web applications, but the announcement of an iPhone SDK is the first sign that Facebook is considering both mobile and desktop platforms as part of their vision.

“…as part of their vision.” Now, that there is the real story!
I was waiting for that feature to come to iPhone 2.0 too. Those javascript/PHP devs should experience an easy transition to Cocoa for sure.

This is great. I can’t wait to start deveoping applications for my Universit alumni using the iphone !!
It was only a matter of time until this happened and I bet MySpace wont be too far behind, but behind they still are.
In my Google I/O presentation, I outline exactly how to bring AJAX gadgets to native iPhone and Android platforms without having to write Objective-C or other stuff.
See http://youtube.com/watch?v=2ScPbu8ga1Q around the 32 minute mark, or see Project Syndroid: http://timepedia.blogspot.com/.....t-and.html
This architecture is being extended to the iPhone, and it will allow the authoring of cross-container gadgets (e.g. iGoogle)/Android/iPhone, with access to native phone services (camera/gps/etc) written in Javascript, without the need of Objective-C, and deployed offline as installables.
interesting, thanks
Good to hear about the iphone integration. Imagine what developers will be able to do with this feature….

Seems like Facebook has gained some good partners in it’s OpenID efforts. Most other competitors have gained a lot less ground trying to capture external sites to receive their log in information.
Regarding that problem, some have suggested a reliable third party, such as Visa to handle the OpenID mess.
facebook connect isn’t really widely used and isn’t as commercialized as much as some other facebook applications. This isn’t making me want to grab an iphone…how about letting iphone users mms?
Any update on this from Facebook?!
Where is this thing? Facebook is silent…
