Apple Seeing Red For iPhone Holiday Sales
by Calley Nye on July 23, 2008

Rumors have been propagating through several popular Mac blogs that Apple will be releasing a red iPhone 3G model for the holiday season. The release will be well-timed, considering the initial iPhone hype will start to slow, and people will be opening up their wallets more for the holiday season. (Photo via MacBlogz)

The red iPhone will presumably be sold as part of the (PRODUCT) RED campaign, a charitable organization that donates money to the Global Fund to fight AIDS in Africa. Apple has released several products for this campaign previously, including (PRODUCT) RED iTunes gift cards, a red 8GB iPod Nano, and a red 1GB iPod Shuffle.

At first I interpreted the title as seeing red ink in their books. But having part of the proceeds going towards the (PRODUCT)RED campaign, that’s something I’d buy.

i was going to upgrade my iphone as soon as supply catches up to demand (waiting lists FTL), but if this is true i will wait.

if i have to shell out money and extend my contract, i’d definitely rather support a worthwhile cause in the process.

I had been waiting for that red iPhone too. Now it’s here. Thanks Calley.

How much will they actually donate for each purchase? The nano was a pitiful $10. I’d rather buy a normal iphone and donate to an aids charity myself than feel the need to draw attention to the fact that I indirectly donated some token amount every time I take a call.

Looks RETARD(RED).

That just looks nasty.

Curious to see how Holiday Sales will work.

It’s not like you can buy an iPhone for someone unless you are a spouse, etc who is the main holder of the plan.

Why would apple have special holiday versions of the iphone…you can’t buy it as a gift now that activation is required before leaving the store.

John Dvorak said today on Crank Geeks that he wanted a red iPhone. Obviously, we can see that he has tremendous influence on Apple (just as we always suspected).

They are not able to manufacture enough phones for demand as it is. I’ve been waiting two weeks for the phone I ordered from AT&T and they say it may be two more weeks before they can fulfill my order. Instead of announcing new styles and promising money to charities, it would be nice if they could keep a simple supply chain going. I see long lines, and a failure once again to meet demand, and un-kept promises to AIDS victims.

The red color doesn’t really go, with the iPhone flow…. http://blabtech.blogspot.com

WANT.LOVE.GOTTA HAVE.NOW.

Agh.. Not very pretty.. Good thing it’d be for charity. I’ll just donate my $500 directly.

Must be a slow iPhone news day. Anyway, that’s not the correct shade of red for (PRODUCT) red. Even my son Loren Feldman knows that.

that’s pretty ugly. I don’t think vivid colors like that are going to look good with the iPhone, they need to go with more dull colors.

What months are considered to be the ‘holiday season’ ?

it’s ok I found it on wikipedia: ‘end November — early January’

We want a pearl blue or dark gray iPhone, please!

Red is hot! Christmas- themed gadget, plus Christmas tones! LOL Happy Holidays.

Girls will love it.

Motorola is the exclusive wireless provider for Product RED and has a range of Red phones already.

Might make this difficult…

They can sell it as an iPod to get around that.

Red is romanic.cool…
