Putting YouTube on something is like a gang initiation for Valley companies. “Sure,” VCs say, “You’ve made a plastic robotic drink coaster with social networking capabilities. But does it have YouTube?”
That said, Series 3 and HD TiVo owners will soon be able to stream YouTube content through the TiVo dashboard. Series 2 owners, however, are out of luck because the H.264 used in the service can’t be added to Series 2 hardware.
TiVo users should notice the update by the end of the month as the 9.4 software update hits machines.

What makes this somewhat more notable than a Netgear box or Apple TV is that TiVo is the first DVR to bring user generated content into a DVR. Though, if I had to prioritize a new TiVo feature HD movie rentals would have come first.
HD movies to TiVo would be much better then Youtube.
First, YouTube should be worrying about Viacom and others that will probably follow. Now they are going to stream those videos to even more places! huh?
The TiVo revolution is great but it’s changing TV networks economics. As you can read in that link, in the short-run, the TV networks are taking advantage of broadband, but what about the long-run?
Can someone please help me understand this move. I am co founder of an online company who creates content for teens and we were talking to TiVo about a content deal. Does this mean that If our company were to get a deal with TiVo would there still be value in getting the deal? Im just wondering if this YouTube deal ruins the value of a deal.
I don’t think it “ruins” the value of a potential deal, but it diminishes it. Considering your company could just create a channel on youtube, it really comes down to cost. Having your own TiVo channel could help drive awareness. Consider both, youtube shot-term, TiVO long-term.
