Good for Erik and Liz. I saw the interview, Erik was great, and Liz is hot-smart. She cracked me up, was on Apple's case. She was the only journalist who wasn't sickeningly obsequeious about it. Sorry guys, but I'm with her. King Steve doesn't get my vote, and clearly he didn't get Liz's or Erik's.

Iphone is great for internetting and foto's and MP3, but I think for someone who do not want all this stuff all in one then buying a Ipod touch can solve the problem, because Iphone subscription is far out the expensive one. I do not have a Iphone either I only need to get on the net so I do not need a Iphone. Ipod touch can do the job too.

Tell the Truth...I new that this time around was going to be more of the same. Huge line, no service, no inventory, horrible customer service, etc...AT&T couldn't get it right the first time, what makes you think they would get it right the second time around ? I think if you never had an iPhone maybe go through the trouble, but if you already have one, why go through the headache for another one. Makes no sense. Apple always launches news products with very low inventory to create excitement and demand. I did it once with the mini me, and never again. I can wait, if I really want an Apple Anything.

@75. I loved my n95 but sold it for the new iPhone. The problem with the N95 was the small screen. The horrible browser which sucked and also that it was not a touch screen. I can sacrifice the 3MP. Also the N95 was a fat phone and was not a great fit in your pocket! I think it is really hard for someone who does not have an iphone to judge the user interface. Also who uses mms? i haven't for the last 3 years. Although copy past and address recognition is something it needs!

Not sure why some people think Android will be free to use on free phones.

Take a look at the companies developing android apps - any of them offer you free monthly cell service? Um, no.

All Android is is a better toolbox but that's all. In the hands of one-armed chimps, well, you cna figure out the rest. Will you be getting better features and easier to use UI than now - presumably but that's counting on Verizon not to lock out features or in this case - NOT EVEN DESIGN THEM ... you get what you pay for.

The iPhone is simply better than every other phone on this planet right now. Are there individual specs that other phones can "top?" Sure but that's like claiming a Buick is better than a Porsche because it only has a 6-cyclinder engine ... other phones you can buy by specs because that's exactly what you get - cobbled together specs - the iphone is designed to operate as a whole thing. There is a difference.

Wow - it has 3G. Erm, isn't that pretty standard these days?

Whilst it is admittedly a beautiful piece of design it still looks underpowered compared to, say, a Nokia N95. But of course Nokia don't appeal to the kind of people who queue up for a phone with a 2MP camera.

Surprised people are slating Blackberry - my 8830 is the fastest PDA I've ever used and has also only crashed once in six months unlike the two Windows phones I've had which were slow and always crashing.

@71 (Ryan Waggoner) Not sure what's wrong with your BlackBerry, but mine (also a curve) and others i've used are not slow. I would agree the browser sux and non-html email sux (which is changing). And the applications are pretty simple for me to instal. Compared to installing apps form the AppStore, yes it is not as simple, but it's definitely not difficult.

I would say for the most part mobile applications have for the most part sucked. But i would disagree in saying that most of the apps available now on the iPhone are any better. Sure, they look better and function better, that's because of the device. We're still seeing the same old check-list/todo list applications that every phone have.

To be honest, the top 50 apps that Android had, impressed me a whole lot more than any of the current mobile applications out there.

I see the smartphone market as a two horse race (unless Android can market itself as a non-2nd tier alternative, a google branded phone would help).

For at least the short-term, i see RIM as the market leader, just becuase of their greater selection of devices. I'm not sure if Apple would branch beyond 1 or two iPhone models, such as a flip phone, doing so would lose a lot of the hype, and anticipation.

I've been growing tired of hearing/reading iPhone this, iPhone that since it came out last year, but with the 3G model coming out it's down-right annoying.

Yes, it's a phone. Designed by Apple. Amazing.

Wake me up when it actually does something new and innovative.

@Dave (#63) Once again, you're confusing "revolutionary" with "large bullet point list of features." There's absolutely lots stuff that other phones can do and the iPhone cant't, but what makes the iPhone revolutionary is that it's accessible to more people, people who wouldn't normally own a smartphone.

I also disagree that the Blackberry's days are numbered, but I think that with the iPhone 2.0 enterprise features, we will see some rapid erosion of their marketshare. I have a Blackberry, and overall, it's a lousy experience. It's slow, the screen is too small, navigation is a pain, browser sucks, no HTML email, dearth of quality software, pain to install apps, media management sucks, etc. It's the kind of experience that you put up with because it's the lesser of two evils. Well, not anymore.

Finally, I had to laugh at PatrickC's assertion that the limitations of the iPhone and the App Store "will keep a lot of quality apps and serious developers away from that platform at least in the near future." The iPhone already has a ton of VERY high quality apps available from very serious developers. You're crazy if you think it's going to slow down from here. I have a Blackberry curve, and not only are great apps few and far between, but they're a pain to find and a pain to install. The App Store is yet another example of Apple simplifying things so that instead of only 5% of people using those features, 90% of people will.

These are the same type of discussions people had regarding the iPod / iTunes when it was first released. I guess some folks never learn.

The BlackBerry's days are NOT numbered. Unlike the competitors during the time when iPod was gaining popularity, RIM isn't just sitting down and watching how things play out.

1) They have a slew of new devices coming, Bold/Javelin for the keypad business folk (which actually has a less boring corporate look to it, so i'm sure many consumers will enjoy), Thunder for the wanna be hip touchscreen consumer market, and the kick start for folks who just want a phone.

2)RIM has a lock on the corporate market, and is now focusing on the consumer market. I think RIM has already done the hard part by getting corporate, now that BB has a name everyone associates with quality, a few pretty devices should attract enough consumers.

3)As a developer, the locked marketplace of the iPhone still is not attractive. Although I am releasing iPhone applications, the mandatory usage of the AppStore, limited selling options and approval process are annoyances, and i'm sure i'm not the only developer who feels this way. I really think that will keep a lot of quality apps and serious developers away from that platform at least in the near future(as we've seen...not the games however). Also the large number of people complaining on software reviews that $8.99 for an app is too expensive, isn't inviting. I believe the ease of building iPhone apps have attracted many people who just want to create garbage applications and sell it for $.99 to get a quick buck has made it harder for real applications to sell for the price it may be really worth... and not being able to trial applications just makes it more difficult after someone has been through 3-4 applications that suck and crash.

As far as Android, we'll have to wait and see, I think it may hurt a little by not having a strong franchise of phones dedicated to solely that OS(like RIM:BlackBerry an the BBOS, Apple:iPhone and the iphoneOS). Windows has a name for itself, but i don't think most consumers will even know what android is when it comes down to it.

To summarize, the iPhone is a great device and i love apple(have two notebooks), but i just disagree with people thinking BB's days are over

I too am mainly excited about the applications and the apps store. I do not own an iPhone either, but I attended a 3G launch and app store party Friday. The people who attended were passionate about their Jesus phones and showed off some really great apps they were working on or knew about. I must admit, there were a couple of them that I am really excited about and plan to write about in my new blog: dougcoleman.wordpress.com

Blackberry's days numbered? I don't think so, at least not yet. Palm, Symbian, Nokia, yes. A year from now there will be two smartphone companies (RIM and Apple). And then things will get interesting.

@62 (Lurker) Why exactly are the BlackBerry's days numbered? What do you think the penetration into the enterprise is really going to be for iPhone?

I'm sorry, but other than the nice UI, Touchscreen, there's really nothing revolutionary about the iPhone, or the 3G iPhone. Yes - Safari is better than most phone's browsers.

Other than that, what capabilities does the iPhone have that other smart phones don't? Copy/paste? MMS? Voice-activated dialing? Stereo bluetooth? How about push Gmail, Hotmail, and Yahoo mail? How about the ability to type without looking at the screen?

Oh, wait, it doesn't have any of those basic functions you'd expect in even the lowest-end smart phone today. I think I'll stick to my trusty BlackBerry, which does have all of those things, which are more important to me than a nice smudgy touch screen.

Also, with the next version of the BlackBerry desktop software, I will be able to sync my BlackBerry with iTunes.
