Michael,

As I am moving this week to Palo Alto from London to set up our US office, I won’t have time to attend this year’s August Capital meet-up. However, I know of an entrepreneur not well connected in the Silicon Valley network who could really benefit from attending.

Therefore, if you bend the rules to allow it, I would be prepared to do the following: You give me the two tickets. I will give one to this entrepreneur to attend in my place. I will do a one-day auction on eBay for the other ticket with 100% of the proceeds going to Malaria No More, and I will personally match the eBay winning auction amount in a further donation to Malaria No More, up to a maximum of $5000.

I would like to pitch my startup, which involves a Doomsday Weather Device. The Lacunosus Machine costs a mere 20 million to develop and the return to investors would be quite significant. We expect collateral damage to be minimal, unless the lightning generator goes haywire and destroys all life on Earth. But my scientists assure me that the Pathos Engine would kick in at the first sign of the apocalypse and correct for air pressure and other barometric factors. In which case you would need only a 10% increase in human misery to engender the necessary charge. As compensation for the trouble, we’d offer free cell phone service to all major cities. It’s in your best interests to consider the potential benefits that this would have on interstate commerce.

Launching Smibs must be a lot easier than many of the other companies I invest in and work for, because you clearly have more time on your hands than anyone in SM and the technology space that I know.

If you worked harder, you would launch faster, and then you might succeed or will fail sooner…

I’m would be interested in tickets to this event, because I represent the Central Valley, the heart of California where there’s less capital available than in the Silicon Valley. I’ve worked over 12 years on a process that will help all attendees and networkers at the event including outside startup firms with intellectual property, service, product and business development. It would be our first time in over 14 years that we’ve tried to approach the capital markets since a last venture which was bought out by a Bay Area company and for which the company’s founder made it as a finalist on the Oprah Winfrey’s Invention Search Show. I say give them to me, because:

a) I’ll be travelling further than anyone else on the planet to get there….unless you have guests coming from Antarctica.
b) We created one of the more interesting and popular Firefox add-ons, with over 500,000 downloads so far, and we did it on a shoestring budget operating out of Christchurch, New Zealand.
c) We have some big plans for the future. With some half decent funding from the right folks, we might just become the next big thing.
d) Who knows, I might meet the right folks at this gathering. At the very least, it would be a very useful networking opportunity.
