With the introduction and now dominance of broadband (less than 5% of computer users in the UK now use dial up) this kind of thing will really take off in the next year or so. The possibilities are unlimited. Infact, I think this is the next evolution for online shopping, where there will be shopping malls where the user can actually wonder down with there mouse and pull stuff of virtual shelves.

Personally i think what Google was / is attempting is not too different than what the Microsoft god was doing.

And is it entirely bad?

A centralized system, one system that fits and suits all, and then we can all drone out in our happy little internet worlds.

Then the developers can move onto more serious cool stuff like building dream-state computers that we put on when we sleep and visually select our dream for that evening.

For me Google dropping Lively was a life saver, yet another V-World that I do not have to compete with. I am a 3d dev building what I consider to be a pretty fair rival to SL, so i know when I say Lively was a pretty decent attempt, hell SL might as well have gone back to pre-school.

Was Google paid off one might ask?
Who knows.
But I am certain of one thing....SL aint gonna give up its fortune lightly :)

I just never saw the productivity of these virtual worlds and how they would play out in real business. They just don't have a following, but they might in the future.

Lively still needs to prove itself even today, many have called it a flop so far. A virtual world isn't just a chatroom, people want a bit more than just sit in a chair and talk.

This is the official hands down final word about LIVELY.

It's good for 8 to 10 year old kids. It's Cute. but then again what would 8 to 10 year olds be doing in a unmoderated chat like this in the first place.
Livley does not hold the advanced features adults would care to use,
nor does it provide the protections young kids would need.

If your over 10 years old forget Lively and go use SecondLife, I think most kids use Secondlife anyways.

If you want to help out for a real chat system, send me an email to Cjay@charter.net, I need your help and support setting up Internet Relay Chat.
The network will be IRC.CRIRC.NET, I want this to grow into a nice robust chat network, so if you want to donate hosting or a server to the network, that would be awsome. send an email will talk 8)

This is the official hands down final word about LIVELY.

It’s good for 8 to 10 year old kids. It’s Cute. but then again what would 8 to 10 year olds be doing in a unmoderated chat like this in the first place.
