$399 to upgrade really is not that bad."

It should be, especially when you're bankrupt!

Man you people getting pissed off at ATT for overpriced iPhone are retards. Its only 199 for 8GB and 36 for activation for new customers--and for people upgrading its only 18. And now there is no shipping fee. The price is good. THE COMPLAINING SHOULD BE FUKIN DONE ABOUT THE WAIT. Now they tell you it takes 10-21 days and average of 13-14 days. But for people who got it through Direct Full fillment the day it came out and ordered priority shipping got it like 3 days ago--It sucks for them. The 3G network works good but it doenst work in all areas. I live outside of town and 3G still sometimes work. And ATT service actually works out it my area. Sprint suks and so does verizon

I got this from AT&T today. The only way i can get the iphone at $199 is to wait until i have had my contract for 1 year. When that day rolls around i can extend my contract another 2 years and pay $18 for activation. The $18 activation fee is fair because they have to make changes to your account. But i feel tricked as far as the phone pricing goes because no one made it clear that they would be changing the rules. Im not crying or trying to get something for nothing i just think its unfair and definately unexpected from a (good) company like apple.

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
Please be advised that the announced pricing for the iPhone 3G of $199 for the 8GB model and $299 for the 16GB model applies to new activations and existing customers eligible for a discounted upgrade. We show you will be able to receive this pricing on the new iPhone as of 3/29/09. If you wish to purchase the device prior to that date, the cost will be
$399 for the 8GB model and $499 for the 16GB model with the 2 year contract renewal. There will also be an $18 upgrade fee assessed if an iPhone is purchased.

Please note that you may keep your same voice plan, but we do ask that you add a 3G iPhone data package to your account. We will be offering the $30 unlimited data (email/web) plan that includes visual voicemail and the $45 unlimited data plan that includes personal and corporate email, web, and visual voicemail. You may keep your unlimited text messaging package. The unlimited messaging package will remain priced at $20 if you add the iPhone to your account.

In my opinion - iPhone is REALLY overrated from a Pocket PC's users point of view.

Yea is got Wow factor unitl you need simple things like that Word Doc you wanted to finish on the comute to work, or open a simple photo that someone has sent you. ATT forces you to login to a web browser to download the file. I never use it for my work. If you love music and love the Apple interface - buy an ipod.

To me, the Iphone should cost like $60. $199 or even $700 is OVERPRICED. Apple sell expensive hardware.

3 months ago when my verizon contract ran out i signed up with att so that i could get an iphone. I did this because of the new 3G $199 iphone rumor that was floating around the web. I got myself the new unlimited everything plan and i have been sitting hear with my mouth watering....dealing with call quality that cant even touch that of verizon in my area (chicago) and now i see some bait and switch poppin off.

I have no problem paying $399. My problem is that the $199 price tag convinced me to give up my blackberry so i could play with something shiney and now i find out its all a lie. Its like getting a super model home and then noticing her adams apple. <---apple get it?

I think it may be cheaper for me to buy out the existing att contract, sign up for a new contract and get the 199 deal and this time i wont give them extra monthly juice by getting the unlimited plan.
