Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger’s announced earlier today a deal California had made with Tesla Motors to bring that electric car company’s manufacturing to the Bay Area.
Watch above as he is joined by Treasurer Bill Lockyer and Tesla Motors President Ze’Ev Drori to deliver a few words about the significance of keeping Tesla in California.

I’m buying one of these.
I still can’t get over how this man says the name of the state he is in charge of. It is nice to see such a good car produced in the United States, though.
And god forbid he makes a public appearance without a Terminator or Predator or Total Recall reference!
He does say “I’ll be back”
So does this mean the Governator will turn in his Hummer for one of these?
He would never fit!
This is huge. I’m buying one. Rest of World vs. Silicon Valley - Score one for SV.
I’m really impressed with the Governator. He seems a lot more genuine than most of the politicians.
@5
The Governator stated that he was one of the first people to buy one.
@5 turn his hummer, in? The only thing the Governator turns in is Chuck Norris.
So, where did you go to copy paste his last name into the post?
On a side note, whats wrong with this Elon Musk guy?
I bet he drove his Hummer to the speech.
Weren’t these guys on the ropes about a week ago? Has Kah-li-fohnia stepped in where intelligent investors have (rightly) feared to tread?
Thank you Tech Crunch. Very informative video.
Exciting technology is here now and just over the horizon.
Aww man, I was hoping to see him join up with tesla COILS.
Hummers are probably more environmentally friendly you noobs.
“Building a Toyota Prius causes more environmental damage than a Hummer that is on the road for three times longer than a Prius. As already noted, the Prius is partly driven by a battery which contains nickel. The nickel is mined and smelted at a plant in Sudbury, Ontario. This plant has caused so much environmental damage to the surrounding environment that NASA has used the ‘dead zone’ around the plant to test moon rovers. The area around the plant is devoid of any life for miles. ”

I don’t understand what motivates you “environmentalists” to hate on the oil industry.
Wonder which city will actually get the plant. Arnold seemed to hint that it would go to an enterprise zone. Richmond would be cool. They have surplus industrial capability and are the largest city with a Green party mayor.
And power these cars with what? Squirrel powered electrical turbines in every garage..?
Arnie is either totally insane or is going to next drop the ‘nuke bomb’. Saying that in order to power all of these electric cars (and web 2.0 servers that keep all of this hope alive online) we need more Powah….
Which would actually be a pretty smart move..
Now is the time for Google, the Chinese and Tata Motors to step in and invest heavily in Tesla Motors as well. We want the mass produced sub-10 thousand dollar electric car fast and worldwide.
Those cars are going to be charged mostly overnight, when power consumption is low, so it won’t require much more infrastructure in terms of power. But Google could invest in building a peer-2-peer electrical grid system, where wind and solar power is stored in electric car batteries and which is then on-demand sent back into the grid when it is required.
A wind turbine pays for itself in less than 5 years, so does a solar panel. After the first 5 years, the power generated by a wind turbine or a solar panel is completely free. So not only is Wind and Solar good for the environment, it’s also completely free. So it makes actually no sense at all not to invest billions of dollars right now in building up hundreds of thousands of multi-megawhatt wind mills and to install thousands of square miles of solar panels all over the place.
how can we make this car even greener? get them to use waste CO2 (R744) to power their MAC (Mobile Air Conditioning).
That way they reduce their ‘real emissions’ even further with this eco-friendly alternative.
Check out http://www.R744.com for more info about companies working with this technology around the world.
The governor is showing leadership once again.

amend the constition, not the change the amendment of course
@16 - regarding Nickel and the Prius…. and the environmental people you troll…
You seem to imply a big ole Hummer made of steel is better for all of us.
Yep. Steel production has never caused any harm to the environment. Animals thrive around refractories and steel mills. It’s awesome! Modern steel alloys rely on elements mined in countries that have outstanding records on human rights. Other mining and manufacturing operations are super clean compared to Nickel operations and the native people nearby live to be 120 years old or more… oyes, it’s just Nickel that is the devil. That’s why the US is constantly opening up new steel mills each week because they are just so amazingly wonderful.
News flash: nothing comes out of the Earth without a price, an impact, and the economics of it will force someone down and degrade or use up something coveted or cherished by another — pick an element, research it, and see what shiny and new or the old and reliable really costs us
Or, if you want to go through like cutting, pasting, linking and not thinking, knock yourself out pal.
I like the Governator and this announcement. But I found it humorous that during an announcement of such “green” nature, he used so many paper notes. Geez, he turned the page after each sentence!
Save a tree, use a teleprompter.
I’m real glad to see Arnold getting behind this. And really sports cars are even worse gas guzzlers than SUVs, and it’s great to see Tesla Motors making some environmentally friendly roadsters.
Arny handsome as usually
