Second-tier social network Hi5 has acquired app developer PixVerse for an undisclosed amount, just four months after launching its app platform based on the OpenSocial specification.
PixVerse offers several applications such as Pix Chat and Pix Wall, which are Flash-based and run on not only Hi5 but other social networks like Facebook as well.
The company was founded in February 2007 and is financially backed by Venrock. It was also one of the earlier adopters of Google App Engine.

Well can we really say Blackplanet.com just exist… seems to me they re-did there whole site a while back and they do seem to be very profitable..
So if you mean like how http://www.engadget.com just exist, then since when has just existing been a bad thing…. seems to me many sites are here today and then gone tomorrow…

hi5 has around 50 million active users. Its in the same league as wordpress. Wake up.

I’m not really sure really what your point was in calling hi5 a second tier network. Is there some fact that you are referring to, or is it just junior level second tier reporting?

There is one key difference between hi5 and Wordpress. I don’t get dozens of emails every week from fake Wordpress users asking me to be one of their friends.
