Does anyone know whether the release of the iPhone 3G S has resulted in more trade in's compared to when the standard 3G was released. With the phone networks stance on getting a phone upgrade when you are already a 3G owner I guess loads of people are left with other choice than to sell their old one.

Do not use this service. I tried it with some old Ipaqs. They received the phones within a week of me sending them (they were sent right after the invoice I created), sat on them for 40 days before inspecting them (my account showed they were received for over a month already), and then claimed that the phones were sent after the 45 day invoice period so they didn't have to pay as much. Then they also claimed that 2 perfectly mint condition phones were also in worse shape than I described, so I ended up not getting even close to the initial amount they told me.

Use one of the other services instead that does something similar to this - this is a ripoff.

Wow, I should create a site like this so that I can get a first gen iPhone for $190! Or 16GB for $212 like another poster listed! If anyone wants to sell their iPhone for that amount, contact me instead! I'll pay your postage too!

I believe the going rate for the Apple iPhone is £145 in the UK today, if that helps, with no chance of getting ripped off by some dodgy Ebay scammer.

[...] Web site Flipswap makes it easy to sell, donate, or recycle your old cell phone or iPod. We’ve highlighted similar services in the past, like previously mentioned Celltrade, but Flipswap has a few features that make it stand out—most notably, the service is completely free, meaning they even pay shipping costs. If you’re looking for a little cash for your first generation iPhone, for example, Flipswap is seeing trade-ins close to $200. If you want to donate, you can pick a charity or trade your phone in for a planted tree. If you have any experience with Flipswap, let’s hear how it worked for you in the comments.
If you do sell your iphone, you should wait until the new firmware comes out. The existing firmware will keep your pictures and personal infomation in a state that it can be retrived after it is resold. The new firmware will do an actual wipe like any other Blackberry or Windows Mobile device.

They seems to have the same prices and also pay for shipping - just another alternative in case you don't like flipswap for some reason

Check out this company: http://cexchange.com
they're offering $255 for an 8gb 1st gen iPhone!
http://cexchange.com/online/Home/ManufacturerSelected.rails?enc=sU4reD6QJWP5MQn1SwFn38CtURe9PcXAJv9fUpYciv8=

It looks like they're beating FlipSwap's "Highest Price" claim by quite a bit.

There's a service called Guaranteed Buyback that allows you to do this for laptops and other CE devices. I did it for my iPod a while back and was impressed how easy it was and the ability to not have to worry when I'm ready to upgrade to a new model.

I'm looking to get a 2g iPhone when the 3g ones come out. How much do you think I'll be able to find an 8gb or 16gb one for in a couple of months?

If you guys think this is a good deal, check THIS out! There's a site called Ebay. I’m not sure how their algorithm works, but 1st gen 8GB iPhones are selling for $300+. I 2 for $375 each the day after the 3g announcement and it doesn't look like prices have dropped much since then.
