The best thing about openTable for me is that on a Saturday, I can ask it for all open tables in SF for that night. So I'm not wasting time calling restaurants to be told they have no table, like in the bad old days. I agree that if you have one restaurant in mind, and you book well ahead, the advantage is minimal. It can be an advantage for customers when openTable aggregates availability info.
