I hope that MS doesn’t buy Yahoo!! MS has wrecked every site it’s been involved with. The only one I still visit is Hotmail (because I have to), which has become poor compared to was it was years ago. Loads way, way slower and way slower and harder to use that other web-email sites.

Don’t people remember years ago MS made a search engine to compete with Google. I checked it out straight away, and found they completely missed the point. So sure enough they didn’t win that war. What makes people think they’ve learnt from there mistakes??!? I don’t see any proof of that, so everyone I know don’t want to see this go through.

Yet this will be very bad for the internet. Google only has my search business because of reasons that have nothing to so with the search results.

Microsoft has missed the point before, and they’ll just miss it again!

The last thing I want to see is the Microsoft vendor locking and service strategy moving to the Yahoo services… It’ll mean less Freedom on the internet. Google will just end up with more business from people like me. I’ll stop using Yahoo services. It’s happened before. So watch out!

Yahoo should purchase Blinkx now to strengthen its search cababilities
if the shareholders of Yahoo could see Yahoo making a concerted effort
to improve and move forward to envigorate this company they most
probably would decline microsofts advances for a takeover and with
Blinkx share price being low at the moment they could get it for a song
remember metadata is old hat compared to what Blinkx now has.

I keep seeing people who are hot to get this deal done, and I keep wondering why? How does this help Microsoft? How does this help Yahoo?

How does it help Microsoft? No really. How does it help Microsoft? The record for large mergers/acquisitions is terrible. The company doing the buying always ends up losing stock value, and the combined business revenues after the merger are never as high as the revenues of the two separate businesses were before the merger. In other words, the company that makes the purchase loses money on the deal.

How does it help Yahoo? It doesn’t, for all of the same reasons it doesn’t help Microsoft, but it also ends up destroying a valuable brand. The end result is negative for both parties in the transaction.

So who does make money? Speculators. And only speculators. This is why Carl Icahn is involved, as a speculator he is going to make a good profit. And he will do it by destroying value.

This does not mean that acquisitions can’t have value. Microsoft’s purchase of Visio Corporation is an excellent acquisition. Microsoft’s marketing reach and financial capabilities meant that the Visio software could now be sold through a far wider channel, and that it was improved dramatically.

Why Microsoft would consider wasting money on Yahoo I don’t know. Possibly Steve Ballmer has lost his mind.
