This Programmable Sky product is awesome, but what I really want is to have it completely covering all six walls of a room with no windows (including the floor and ceiling) and have it hooked up to an Xbox or Wii. Can one of you get that set up and send a video? We’ll send you a free TechCrunch tshirt, promise.

Michael,
Did you send me a email threw the contact me section, someone claiming to be you sent me a rather nasty email with a ip address in New Zealand ?
The url to my site is http://www.crunchnow.com Btw
Unfortunately this isn’t a video / screen / monitor product. If you look at the product details, it’s done with static images and backlight. A video version would be nails!
Anyone know how much this costs?
I hate it when sites make you call a salesmen. As always, I read that line “Call a Designer for Pricing” and closed the tab.
I would love to have this install on the ceiling of my window-less office cubical. Gives me something to look at
Maybe you should get outside once in a while, Mike
this product have a huge market potential here in seattle. i want one!
When I was getting radiation for cancer treatment and was on my back every day getting zapped, there was a “sky” that looked almost exactly like this above me.
All products go through three phases:
(i) What is it?
(ii) How much is it?
(iii) I can make it cheaper.
Considering that there is NO info about the price on the website, this product is in the “what is it” category.
Twitter me when it moves to the third category!.
My price guesstimate – it will be more expensive then sticking on a similarly sized HDTV monitor.
For some things, I don’t mind being ULA, Ultra Late Adopter; this will be one of them.
Um. Go outside. I swear, the West Coast needs to go away.
My first thought was ‘wow, an engineer with no sense of what the market wants.’ Then I saw all these folks who would buy one.
I guess infomercials sell something to somebody.
Hook it up to an xbox or wii? why? should we also make it “viral” while we are at it?
Imagine how cool Microsoft Surface would be if it were on four walls of a room
Oh the irony if it is powered by solar!
i find it rather sad that people want this thing.
i was expecting a flurry of sarcastic smartass comments here making fun of this thing. but most people seem to like it.
as cool as tech crunch readers are, and as upto date with happenings in the web 2.0 world, looks like they are mile behind when it comes to living a life.
MA included? plz don’t ban me, cause i’ll take that as a yes!
Mike – Fakespace has been doing what you asked for for years… 3d projected, immersive environment that responds to interaction. Dan Corr has a showroom in SF.
Leave it to some programmer to f*ck w/ buyers and add a bird crapping on the window, kids crawling across it peering in, or a naked skydiver landing on it…..
Mike,
you need a CAVE, http://en.wikip...ual_Environment
Can anyone think of a worse image to use as an example on this thing than something with both BLOSSOM and CLOUDS? Both are a permanent reminder that you have a crappy static image above your head. How about evergreen trees and a blue sky for a start? Or how about just spending your money on a decent light fitting instead of something that simply tells your visitors that you are a tool.
this is quite stupid.
I do PR for The Sky Factory. The flash video that is on our website is higher quality. It is meant to be a simulation of the effect that programmable SkyCeilings create. We have many installations that are on the website that give a better idea of the transformational effect that this product can have on an array of interior environments. Check out the website http://www.theskyfactory.com
The news video on their site says that the install they showed in a hospital was $5,000
neat product but the practicality and cost of it just boggles me. Yea its cool, but so is going outside or installing a skylight.
