I have used many different “social-bookmarking” apps in the past and have personally found Diigo to be my favorite. I have not experienced Diigo to be difficult to use as the “Guest Author” suggests.

Diigo provides the same highlighting & online sticky note functionality, which one could easily share with friends, select groups, or a community.

@Jerry Yang. Diigo integrates with other key social-bookmarking sites as well. If you’ve been a life-long fan of Delicious, Magnolia, and Simpy, etc….you can still post to these sites while bookmarking with Diigo.

Diigo is also Twitter-friendly. You can simulatenously share any new bookmarks to Twitter with one click. I’m a big fan of Twitter and love the fact that I can now quickly share my relevant findings to all the non-Diigo users who are following me on Twitter.

I realize there are many new apps on the market, all with their unique pro’s and con’s…but let’s be fair when we’re talking about these apps!

Tried the tool corrupted my firefox profile had to uninstall firefox and I’m having issues with XP now. What a terrible experience.

Not sure who the guest author for this article is but he/she could have at least done a Google search before posting this. The web highlighters have been around for longer than I can remember and just in the last 18 months I saw three business plans that offered web highlighting as a part of their web offerings.

Just because somebody at Stanford reviewed two or three services, doesn’t mean that’s what is available.

The ones that I have used are Roohit.com and i-lighter.com; in fact i-lighter has a twitter integration.

I read Hacker News a lot, and remember when these guys first posted on there. I checked it out then and thought it was a cool implementation on an interesting idea, and since then they’ve only made it 10x (my own math) better. I’m actually pretty impressed in the improvements they have made already in a short period.

I think it’s pretty obvious most of the negative comments on this post are from people with competing products — not very a representative opinion IMO. AwesomeHighlighter is actually a really cool product, and from the sounds of it they’ve got a lot more in store. I for one will keep tabs on what they’re up to…

There was a service that pretty much nailed it 7 years ago, Equill. Of course Microsoft bought it out and we haven’t heard from it since.

This could actually be a useful tool in a variety of situations. Team web page design, collaborative document review, etc.

The tool in its current state may not be 100% new/original but the data they could theoretically collect and resell to old school media could be very valuable. I would not discount what they’re doing and the potential behind it as a solid business. Granted, they will certainly have competition if there is any inherent value in collecting and sharing this kind of information.
